Triumph TR6 - tube chassis for tr-6

Does anyone have a design for a TR-6 tube chassis keeping all the same body and suspension mounting points? If not, who would you go to for designing one? A strong chromemoly tube frame for a V-8 would be the way to go, what do you think? Thanks.

Steve- Are you familiar with Ratco. They build custom Box frames.

I would suggest that you look through the ads in the back of publications such as Grassroots Motorsports, Sports Car, etc for race car fabricators if you want to go the custom tube frame route. It really boils down to how serious are you and remembering the answer to the question "How fast do you want to go?" is often the question of "How much do you want to spend?."

These guys have done worked on a number of GT cars:

Pretty decent folks, but Harry can get a bit touchy if he feels that his time is being wasted. We never go to his shop if all we have in mind is a pure BS session. There has got to be business to attend to.

Ron, Aren't the Ratco frames stock ones with a few upgrades (some boxing of the rear mounting areas and some gusseting of the known weak spots)? Do they make frames with a heavier guage?
Steve Hazelfeldt

I meant to say Don, not Ron. Sorry.

Steve H.,
the frames that Ratco are making are designed to fit stock TR4-6 but are much stronger than the original frame. They are building a frame for me at this moment and Tony, the head builder assures me that his frame will easily handle the 300lbs of toruqe that my engine puts out. At $2450.00 I think that is a pretty good deal. I believe their frame is only about 60lbs heavier
than an original frame.

Thanks for your input everyone. What engine are you going with Chris? I like the looks of their rear roll bar since I already have the coil over shock conversion. A lot better price than Revington TR especially now with the horrible exchange rate.
Steve Hazelfeldt

Steve-call them up and see if it is feasible to make a tube frame. Just cost a phone call. Can you say that anymore, With some systems LD is no cost extra!!!

Tony from Ratco said in an email that he could make a chassis either out of chrome moly, aluminum, mild steel, with ford v-8 engine mounts and t-5 tranny crossmember. He said he is making one now for a customer with the ford v-8 mounts and moved the engine to a location for better fit. Tony is a very helpful guy.
Steve Hazelfeldt

Steve.H,
that's my frame he's taking about. Tony is doing the V8 mods. for no extra charge. If you download the information booklet from his site you'll see the care and thought that went into the welded joints of the frame.

See Steve, Ask thee and you shall find the answer. Now that would only work on the president.

Chris,
Which way are you moving the mounts for a better fit? How will it affect other things like the bolt-in crossmember up front and the steering rack? Will the v-8 fit under the stock hood in your location? Thanks,
Steve

Steve, http://www.britishv8.org/ and all your questions will be answered. My site has some detail but Dan Masters site will show you everything. My set up is almost identical to Dan's. (no point re-inventing the wheel) Dan lives in TN, maybe he close.
