Triumph TR6 - Stromberg Bypass Valve - Help

Hi Folks:
I could use some help here with two things; one thing I need is advice and the other is a small part.I have the carbs completely rebuilt with the exception of one single missing part but first the advice. I only found out (from the Buckeye Triumphs' Nelson Reidel's articles on the ZS 175's) after glass bead blasting and then soaking my carbs overnight in carb cleaner that there is a valve(rubber?) in the float chamber vent that prevents vapors from escaping through the air filter and directs them to the carbon canister. Question: would the overnight soaking have ruined that valve? Anybody done this? Removing that valve is a pain and in any case it's too late to take it out. I'm ready to try those carbs on the car anyway but prior experience might be helpful. Anybody?
Second, the adjustable bypass valves have a push nut that secures the brass adjusting screw. It is star-shaped and made of spring steel and I cannot find one anywhere. None of the big 3 suppliers even have it in their catalog and the couple of old ZS 175's I have located have the non-adjustable bypass valves (well they are adjustable but they have to be removed and disassembeled each time you want to take a turn or two on the adjuster inside). I have tried all the other sources; Crappy Tire, Home Depot and Home Hardware, the dedicated fastener shop, the auto trim place that sells all kinds of push nuts and clips with no luck. The push nut has a 1/8" hole and I found 3/16" size and up but no such animal as a 1/8". Does anybody have one of these they could give or sell me or tell me where to get them? I'd buy a dozen just to have them if I had to. Pic attached of twp BP valves; left with push nut, fight one missing the push nut.
Thanks,
Bob

Bob, Check with Joe Curto

Sorry I can't be more definitive on the valve - my guess is the soak wouldn't hurt it. Can't help with the by-pass part either - mine are blanked off.
Brent B

Good idea Don - thanks. Will find out about the valve one way or another :0)

Update:
A guy from work did a frame-off on a '78 Pontiac Grand Am. I had shown him the bypass valve and he came in today with a push nut - it fit! This type of nut was used on his car to secure the dome light. Imagine that!

Is this a push nut?

Don't they have Lowes or Home Depot in Nuffy?
DON KELLY

Yup, got Home Depot. Heard we may get traffic signals next.

Bob, good one. Ours carry all sorts of those and also hardware stores of sorts.
DON KELLY

Don,couldn't resist! Gonna try Joe Curto for the original anyway.
