Triumph TR6 - Moss - Falcon Dual Stainless Sport Exhaust

Hi Folks:
Anybody have experience installing that system from Moss? I took the TR6 out for a first real drive today and into local garage to get it on a ramp to properly adjust the system in place. Could not do it on jack stands so went to a garage for ramp time. My guy looked for about 15 minutes and said he couldn't do anything with it. He said pipes need to be bent and adjusted to clear the T-Shirt, avoid the left rear brake line fitting and get the pipe/muffler joint up off the pavement. This is the worst fitting exhaust I have ever seen and I put the Falcon stainless "stock" system on myself in about 30 minutes. I sold that one to Les Gilholme. Any tips would be appreciated. I am so frustrated at this point I am considering scrapping the dual sport system and buying the stock mild steel system. One positive is that the system sounds wonderful if a wee bit loud but with no leaks. It's just a bad piece of work by Moss.
Cheers,
Bob

It's not just you.

I installed one of those systems several years ago on my 1971 that I had fitted with a twin outlet exhaust manifold such as that found on the later cars. Mine didn't come from Moss, it came from one of the other "usual suspects." Let's just say that I was somewhat underwhelmed with the fit and ease of installation/adjustment. Eventually I got it where I wanted it, but there were issues related to bend locations, pipe lengths that were marginal, etc. I can also tell you that I questioned the ancestory of the exhaust system and made various remarks about an Oedipus complex but using different words during the installation process.

You mean this?

Yeah Don - but the damn thing just doesn't fit right. It needs to be bent to keep off the pavement and away from the left rear brake line. I've got a guy lined up now. Thanks for the pics. I will be using the same pipe wrap you have in pics. At least it should keep it from rattling in the T-Shirt. BTW - she goes like stink with the new, hot GP2 cam and handles really well with the new steering rack with solid mounts. Night and day compared to before - like a new car! Z4 is gone and I love my TR6 again! >)

Which manifold?
DNK

Dual downpipes and original intake and exhaust manifolds from the stock 1975 engine, a replacement for the very tired '76 engine that now sits on the floor awaiting a bone-stock rebuild. The new engine does not have the air pipes on the exhaust manifold.

The falcon is a pain with the TT headers

Finally got the bugger on right. Took two and a half hours and $200 at a local muffler shop but it's installed as it should be. Each pipe through the T-Shirt required two bends. Still not thrilled about the proximity to the left rear brake line but wrapped the pipes with that insulating tape kit from Moss so should be okay. Pretty loud though.
