Triumph TR6 - Lots of 'before'pics, finally some 'after' ones

Well, engine is about done, just need the right head gasket to show up, bolt on the head and thats one more job to be "checked" off of the list!

Maybe this one will work....

Mitch Smith

OK, now for the induction system!
Mitch Smith

Agggggggh!
OK, i will try this again!

Hi Mitch,

its a beauty! WOW! very nice work indeedilydo ;o)
I like to challenge myself... or is that punish.... with mechanical undertakings but a PI system seemed simply masochistic! Did you rebuild it yourself? Where are you located in BC? I would love to see and hear it when you are done.

Here is a pic of my engine before plunking it back on the chassis... three years ago.

Cheers, Rob

Rob Gibbs

Hello Mitch,

Where have you found that P.I.? I would like to upgrade my TR6 with one like that...

Cheers,

JGC

Hello Rob, nice looking mill you have there too! Is your car now back together or still in progress?
I sometimes wonder If I am masochistic, but i just keep hitting my thumb with a hammer, and the feeling goes away!
There really is not much inside these things to be re-built. There were a couple of small levers that had elongated holes in them that i re-bushed and the rest was just taking apart, cleaning, renewing all the seals and "O" rings and then a couple of initial adjustments with feeler gauges to get it in the ball park. The injectors are mechanical, not much to wear out except a small "O" ring in the tip, and then there is a cracking pressure adjustment. All in all, I dont think its that complicated of a system and i do like the mechanical aspect of it. It runs off of engine vacuum/spring pressure inside the metering unit and the whole thing is mechanically timed via an extra gear on the distributor drive shaft!
With wide band O2 sensors, i think you can adjust these things fairly well.
As i took the car apart i re-built all the components, so now im at the point where i need to get the frame blasted and painted, weld in a few gussets and stuff like that. I have to farm that out, as im not a welder, but should have a rolling frame by the end of July!
Im in Mill Bay, about 1/2 hour north of Victoria, so maybe next years Filberg for me!
JGC, I have bought bits and pieces over E bay the past couple of years, and once got a complete set from a guy on one of the other BBS sites for a couple of hundred bucks. There are lots of good Lucas links around, have a look at them to see what you are getting into. You need the CR increased, a different camshaft etc to get the benefits of the PI system.
IF you are interested, I can send you a bunch of links...

cheers,

Mitch

Hi Mitch,

my car should be done by mid summer... ground up rusteration. Perhaps I'll see you at Filberg or Brits on the Beach in Ladysmith... both a terrific show with nice people to meet. I'm located in Qualicum Beach...where it never snows... except last weekend... flattened the daffodils pretty good!

Send me some links to your project...I'd love to see what you've done.

Cheers, Rob

Finally got the frame blasted and primed. I am going to paint it with Endura ( a 2 part epoxy paint) once i have the welding done. Frame was in alot better shape than i expected it to be, so pretty happy about that.!

And this evening.............

Thank you Mitch,

If you can send me infos, I will appreciate it greatly.
For frame retoration, it is a nice job. I never had the guts to do that.

Hello JGC,

Here are some links to some Lucas sites.

They should work, but if not then just google Lucas P.I and lots of info comes up.

Rob, I dont really have and links to what im doing, just a bunch of pictures ( so i can remember how this thing goes back together) on photobucket.
I really do need to organize it better one day!

this link should work better

Thank you Mitch,

I see that Lucas injection installation is feasible.

I was considering aftermarket options, like

http://www.customefis.com/triumph.html

or

http://www.pattonmachine.com/

or total advance(could not find it anymore)

But I difinitely prefer Lucas original set-up...

Looking very nice Mitch.

Can't wait to see the finished product.

Hi Mitch,

very nice frame work! Did you do the welding? The one change I wich I had made on my frame was to run a 1.25" diameter ERW tube inside of the left inner frame section in-order to plumb the brake line and especially the fuel line/vapour lines away from the exhaust pipes... I do not like their proximity to one another. It would have run from the front to the rear of the narrow section to avoid fuel heating. I wonder if any one reading this has seen this done? Here's a pic of my chassis in 2006...

Cheers, Rob

Rob Gibbs

....and a shot last spring after putting in the SS exhaust, shock conversion, etc

Rob Gibbs

Engine done and together. Gearbox with "J" type O.D. installed. Injectors overhauled and installed along with new fuel lines. Distributor re-curved by Jeff at Advance Distributors and installed.
Engine looks pretty busy with all the lines, i will try to tidy it up a bit.

On to the next project!!

Mitch Smith

and one more.

Finally got the frame welded up ( boxed in diff pins, some angle pieces on the diff bridge, support for the steering rack, gussets on the front suspension mounting points) Painted with POR 15 and then filled the insides of the box sections with an aviation grade corrosion preventative compound then turned the frame upside down and did it again! Should last my lifetime I hope!

Mitch Smith

Last one. Now comes the fun part, putting it all back together!

Mitch Smith

Hi Mitch, it looks fantastic. Terrific weld quality too! Hope to see you at "Brits on the Beach" today in Ladysmith,

Cheers,Rob
