Triumph TR6 - clutch slipping??

I am not really sure what is going on. I have a 72 TR6. While driving in 2nd, 3rd and 4th the engine will surge when I am arriving at higher RPMs. As I accelerate the engine will race. If I back off and gradually accelerate it won't do it. It seems to be getting worse. I am wondering if it is the clutch or if the transmission is slipping.

I would say you have clutch slipage. Do you get a strong burnt rubber smell? Do you get slipage in first gear as you accelerate?

Thanks for responding Rick. I haven't noticed burnt rubber smell. I also don't get slippage in 1st gear. I really notice it in 3rd and 4th gears.

Usually starts there and will eventually get to first if you let it. Time to overhaul the clutch and do the pin job and while your there rear seal and throw in a Fidenza flywheel while your at it
DON KELLY

R U planning to remove the tranny or farming it out?
Agree with Don, many things to look at with the tranny out.

Do you have an OD?

I don't think the tranny can slip per se. But if the OD is on and the pump in it is worn, you can get funny results. And it will show in 2, 3 and 4 gear not first.

I suspect the clutch first though as Don and Rick do.
