Triumph TR6 - Battery Height

Hi Guys,
My battery died over the winter despite trickle charging..I went to my local batt store and his parts book lists a batt for TR6's. When I brought it home I realised its 1.5" taller (8") than the old battery (6.5") which means my hold down bracket arm won't reach to thread the nut. I've checked with 3 other TR owners and 2 have batts that are 6.5" high and one at 8" high...Anyone know what the original is ? I assume it's 6.5 as that works for the arm length...it's no problem making longer ones but I'd like to keep as close to original if possible.
Could someone measure your batt height for me ..
thx

Hi Charlie;
My battery is 8 in. tall and the hold down bolts reach o.k. I beleive that height is correct because I replaced the orginal battery when I got the car and this battery is the same size (but not Lucas)My car as you know is the same year as yours.

Is there a possibility that the DPO cut the hold down arms? My hold down arms are 8" long and battery height is also 8".

Mine is same as Rick's. 1 caveat though, I bought a new battery box and hold down bolts for a new battery, an Interstate.

What I'm gathering here is that an original hold down "arm" from bend to end should be approx 8.5 which will fit a 8" batt....great I will fabricate two new ones soon..it looks like a PO has cut them back to fit a shorter battery.
Thanks All

To be carefull how I put this...8" is long enough. 8.5" will be toooo long. This measurement is from hook to tip of thread. I have a set of these and you are welcome to them. All I have to do is find them. They are in need of a good polish with a wire wheel brush but I think will come back to perty. Can bring them to BBSers party. Let me know if interested.

Thanks Rick,
I've already made them...I just have to cut the length before I tap/die the thread...I'll measure twice at 8" !
I guessing now that I don't have to burn a copy of the manual for Chris ? since you've combined everything on one CD?

Good Guess Charlie.

My two cents is to take 3/8" threaded rod, take a torch to heat & put a bend at the end. cut to length w/hacksaw, use a washer & two nuts to lock down.

Your right Ed, except I decided to use 1/4 smooth rod and tap the end rather than threaded rod just for looks sake for me...I got it nice and red hot...hammered it flat about 1/2 it's thickness and 1" long then bent it at the end..clean it up on the wire brush and it looks great.
thanks 2 all
