Triumph TR3 - FOG LIGHTS

I HAVE JUST PURCHASED A SET OF fog lampS FOR MY 59 TR3A FROM MOSS MOTORS. NOW I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO HOOK THEM UP. I NOTICED WHILE INSTALLING THE BULBS, THAT ONE WIRE IS HOOKED TO THE LIGHT HOUSING AND ONE IS "LOOSE". THE LOOSE ONE I AM SURE IS TO BE CONNECTED TO A HOT WIRE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. MY QUESTION IS, CAN I WIRE THIS TO THE FLOOR DIMMER SWITCH SO THE LIGHTS ARE ONLY ON WHEN I HIT THE BRIGHTS? IF SO, WHICH WIRE ON THE HARNESS GOING INTO THE BACK OF THE HEADLIGHTS DO I USE? THANKS FOR THE HELP

Fog lights should only be on when the dim lights are on, not the brights. But you are adding quite a load to the original wiring which may not have the capacity to cope with the extra current.
Best bet is to run them through a relay, which indeed could be operated by the dimmer switch. Have a look at

Since you want them on with the brights, I guess you'll call them driving lights. A relay is recommended, as well as courtesy to oncoming traffic. But if they let you see a deer in time, well worth the effort. I'd just put them on a lighted switch by themselves.
