Triumph TR3 - Brake fluid choices

Hi all,
Does anyone know if any problems will be caused to the hydraulic brake/clutch system on my 1959 TR3a if I use Dot5 silicone brake fluid?

It has been said many times here in the archives and elsewhere that if you want to change to silicone brake fluid, you have to change all the rubber hoses and seals first. Then clean out all the pipes in the system. Then re-fill with silicone fluid.

I did just that during my total body-off resoration between 1987 to 1990. Since then, I've driven "TRusty" over 70,000 miles with silicone brake fluid. If you do all this and pour the new fluid into the reservoir, it will entrain air bubbles with it and it will take some time before they escape. When I filled my system, I still had 18 months of other things to do before the car was ready for the road.

I'd do it again if I had to because it won't take the paint off when (if) it drips onto the paintwork.

Racing TR drivers won't use it because they say they have a lot of problems with it.

Do a search up on the RHS of this page for silicone fluid and see what others have said in the past.
