MG TD TF 1500 - XPAG Weight

I found this interesting as I've seen the question asked previously (but never answered).

A lister on the T-ABC site had asked for the weight of a complete XPAG since he was going to ship it off for repairs and Russ Wilson (Encinitas, CA) replied:

"I weighed a fully assembled XPAG this morning at 245 pounds (111 kg). As you can see in the photo (which will be stripped from the mail to the group), this is fully assembled with starter, generator, carbs, manifolds, water pump, thermostat housing, fan, and air filter. It is without the clutch assembly and is dry (no fluids). This was done on a digital bathroom scale that has always been within a pound or two of the weights from scales in doctors' offices.

Gene - Thank you for sharing this information with us, it has goon right into my files for future reference. I believe that this is the first time I have seen a weight given for the XPAG engines (if not, I apologize to whomever posted it before). Cheers - Dave

Hi Dave DeB,

Here is something else for your "files" that I thought you or others might note for future reference. A "completely" stripped XPAG block weights 91 lbs. [on bathroom scales]. This could be of value to someone who has to ship their block away for machine work. Other items could be added [head, manifolds, etc] if required.

George - Thank you, I'll add that info to Gene's. I'm sure that it will come in handy for someone sometime down the pike. I knew that a stripped down block wasn't all that heavy, I'm able to pick one up and move it from place to place without too much strain. Cheers - Dave

Interesting,

WKF Wood claimed 323 lbs as the power unit weight in his 1968 book on power tuning the XPAG.

What I would like to know, is the distribution of weight for the entire car; ie % front/% rear.

Helps in designing a trailer.

Gordon, according to the Motor Road Test Feb. 1950, empty, it is 49 front 51 rear. Two years later the Motor found it was 50-50. Not enough of a difference either way to matter.
