MG TD TF 1500 - wing lamp t/sig burn out

I've installed a new wiring harness with the t/sig circuitry. I've installed the new 2-contact bases, flasher, switch and relay.

The problem is my l/h parking lamp burns much brighter than the r/h lamp. If the car is running, the left front t/sig filament burns out after only a few flashes.

Originally, I had the two wires in the lamp base reversed and the parking light would burn out immediately.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

Make sure all the lamps are rated at 12 volts. Are you using dual filament bulbs or are you using two bulbs? The indicators should be the brighter of the two if you are using what would typically be rear/brake light bulbs. The voltage regulator may be shot if the lamps are all rated at 12v and are blowing.

Thanks George. I'm using the Moss "kit" and the system works fine all except for the left wing lamp. The next thing I'm going to do is check voltage at the socket base and see how much it's getting before I try any more bulbs.

The only thing I can think of that would give a higher than supply voltage at a specific socket is an inductive kickback from the flasher unit. Maybe a diode is needed across the relay coil to prevent this, but I really don't know what the Moss kit includes.

From your description of the problem it appears to only occur when the engine is running. This suggest the dynamo is providing too high a voltage caused by a faulty cut out / voltage regulator. If you want I can provide you with instruction on how to test the unit but you will need a good moving coil voltmeter. May be best to buy a recon unit - they aren't expensive.
