MG TD TF 1500 - Wind Wings

I've seen the Moss catalog advertise wind wings that attach to the winshield posts with no modifications to the posts needed. Do they make an appreciable difference to the buffeting you experience while driving? Would you recommend them?
Gene Burgess

Gene - the wind wings do help a bit, I use them anytime I have the side curtains off. The greatest buffeting is coming from the rear when the top is down. I didn't realize how much of a beating one took from behind until I rode top down in my brother-in-law's Mazda RX7 that had a wind blocker behind the seats. We were traveling on one of the LA freeways at 70+ MPH with no noticable buffeting and everything was quiet enough to carry on a normal conversation (part of that was no engine noise that one gets in a T series at 4200 RPM). That made a real believer out of me, although not enough to try to engineer a wind blocker for the TD (one of our members made one for his TF that is somewhat of a help, but nothing compared to one that is designed into the car at the start.

Aw gee whiz, Dave,

You want to take away all the pleasure of drivig a T-Series with no top or sidescreens.

I used to have a part in my hair on the side of my head, but when I'm in my T, its up the middle in the back! And I love it that way.

Chaque à son gout!

I have always seen wind wings as an American thing, - like the white sidewall tires, so have never tried them. But I must admit that buffeting from gusty cross winds can be unplesant. Beating from the rear is a factor. I once drove about 40 miles in the rain and only had a trickle of water down my neck and when I eventually pulled in at a service station, realised how hard it was raining.

Hello Gene,
Your posting reminded me that I have a new (still in package) set of TD wind wings. I am not using a full screen (vintage racer) so
they would be available. Without looking at a full screen it is not obvious to me how they mount but it says "no drilling required". Just contact me directly.

I have a set of Armco wind wings that are molded with a curve toward the bottom and the outside edge. These help a little but more than the flat ones that I had before. They mount with allen/set screws to the inside edge of the windshield frame. No wholes required.

In the 1993 edition of the MG T Register T Type Restoration Manual, page 88, is a reprint of an old advertisement showing wind wings and a "back draught" screen for the TD and the TF. I also remember seeing side screens which just fit the triangular shape of the door angle. Would be interesting to see all on one car!

Again, thanks everyone! At this point I have yet to drive the TF even once. When she comes out of storage in the spring, gets broken in (new engine rebuild) and I've had some time to put some miles on her, I'll revisit the idea of wind wings again, if I feel its necessary. As for Gord's hairdo antics, I was considering a World War I Flight helmet and goggles to help keep my hairpiece in place.
