MG TD TF 1500 - weight of a 1250 XPAG engine

Anyone know the weight of the 1250 XPAG engine? I'm getting ready to ship and need a fairly accurate estimate of its weight.

Thanks -- John

How complete an engine? bare block? w/head? I have one in 'kit form' at the moment and would be happy to measure the various parts for you.

Right. Sould have clarified. I've stripped off the exhaust manifold, carbs, starter, generator. The engine will be sent "whole" with some of the parts I have taken off shipped separately.

Your assistance is much appreciated, but seems like asking a lot to have you weigh each part separately. I've looked at some tech texts, thinking I should be able to find the weight of the engine, but no luck so far.

The engine is being shipped "whole" as the folks doing the rebuild want to run it prior to shipping back.

John,

W.K.F. Wood gave the weight of the power unit as 323 lbs. I always have assumed this to include the water pump and the manifolds but not the carbs, the generator or starter.

Thanks Dave, as always very helpful info. For whatever reason, I had guessed that the weight might be around 300 lbs.

By the way, my first post was to ask the question, "what to keep original and what to change". I guess I am beginning to answer that question for myself as I have now gone to the Skyhook tranmission change (being shipped from Steve Neal this week), to the conversion over to the 4.3:1 differential, and now to some upgrades (not all determined at this point) for the engine.

Although not all on this list would agree on my choices to date, I have been educated and influenced by the input I have received on this post. I am most greatful.

I will keep you all (even for those not really interested) in my progress as I begin the restoration of this wonderful car, the MG TF.

Cheers -- John

Well, I can't say the actual weight, but drove from Georgia to Wisconsin with one with a supercharger mounted and generator water pump, dist. on it. Engine sat against the back of my rear seat in a Hyundai Santa Fe and was enough weight to raise the front end up to where my headlights drove the other cars nuts.
