MG TD TF 1500 - Wanted To Find

Wanted To Find

Current owner of 1950 MGTD #1091/49169/Motor # 1643.

I have a scrap book put together by former owner of this car including Bill of Sale and title dated December 1957.

Assorted photos and info includes rally, race, restoration pictures (1961), etc.

Material is dated 1957-1984

Rick, That's real nice of you to do that. The PO 2 times back of my TF has a bunch of records, old service bills and paperwork on my car but refuses to let me have any of it. I even offered to buy it from him to keep with the car, but he still refuses. Nice guy huh. Says he wants it for his collection, if you can figure that one out! The owner of the TD in question, if found, is a very lucky fellow and doesn't know it. PJ

I have the same problem...p/o has a few photo albums from 1969 when he bought it that are 'just too hard to get out'.....!!!
gblawson(gordon- TD27667)

I have photos of my car from the previous owner, showing them cutting the tree down from in front of the door of the garage so they could get the car out. Photos were from the late 70's early 80's. I am really glad that I got them. kinda neat.
Tom Maine (TD8105)

It's really a shame that someone would feel this way. You would think they would be glad to let the owner have them, or even copies to give some clues to previous ownership. Who knows where that would lead. But, such is life. PJ

Rick ,
Great that you are doing this!
The ad for my TF promissed "complete and full documentation that would take a year to scan".
Well...it's been over 10+ years and I haven't got that yet!
For those of you looking ...never give up.
From some help on this BBS I have made contact with a "PPO" and am finally getting some results.
Thanks again!

I have tracked the prior owners of my 52 TD Mark II back to 1960, but have no photos or documentation prior to my purchase.

John Masters

I've tracked down all PO's and got fascinating stories and a whole bunch of pics. Even one dated 1955 with TD3966 in Florence (Italy). That must have been quite a journey!
The PO who restored the TD during 1996-2003 died in 2008 and last year I've visited his wife. She said she had full documentation of the process, including invoices and pics, and that she was pleased to give it to me, but she had to look for it in his belongings. It took me 8 months and many 'sweet' reminders to finally receive a set of pics and some documents. I know for sure she must have much more stuff and I keep trying to get it. I'm convinced some day I'll succeed...but don't know when...

Reading the above entries ignited the old fire to try to locate the former owner of my RHD TD. In early 1962 he was a U. S. Army soldier returning to the USA from an Air Force Base near Nancy, France. He probably would be in his late 60s or early 70s by now who might have mentioned to one of our readers that he had an old MG in France when he was young. I often regret that I didn't question him about any history he might have shared with me. 20/20 hindsight.
Jim Merz

I have all the registrations from my TD back to the original (California USED to allow you to get that information. Have never located the original owner.
Bruce Cunha

I'm the one and only ever owner. I bought my TF new.

Not so for my 1934 PA. What a hassle. I first wrote to the county where the car was first registered in the UK and no answer. Then I contacted the Kithead Trust, who have corraled all early automotive records of several of the larger counties around London. Finally the Essex County Vehicle Archives have agreed to make a more thorough search (for £12.50) ... and I am waiting.

Anybody with US information on PA0921 with UK Registration BPG 296 ... would love to hear from you.

In the US, earliest owner of record was a Fred Granshaw in 1985, but I'm missing everything between 1974 and 1986.

Here she is in Florence, Toscane (Italy), 1955. Nice luggage facility, isn't it?

Since the previous owner 2 times back won't let me have any of the paper work pertaining to my car, I've been trying to get any information I can from other sources. Here's a photo of a windshield sticker on my windshield that I've been trying to trace it's origin since I've had the car. I've posted this before in hopes that someone truly recognizes it from the past. I've had a lot of guesses, but the right person hasn't come forward and said, HEY, I KNOW THAT STICKER! I can only hope.

I was going to install a new glass, but I think I'll keep the old one with the sticker on it for nostalgic reasons. My car is being built to drive, not for show, so, it's been on there a long time and survived many drivers. For now, it'll stay and go back in the restored frame. PJ

I've been waiting years for my documentation. Luckily the contact information I have with the PO's son is still valid. She's old and there are a million file cabinets in her house to go through. Son said there is little black book that dad used to write down "went to store...1.2 miles..."
If that is true and he did it consistently from day one, that is a priceless piece of the cars history.

I have one from my '63 MGB like that. 1st entry is traded the dealer my '58 MGA for a new '63 MGB and the price. Documentation is from the day she was sold at the dealer.

PJ, I don't know where you are in SC, or where the car cam from, but isn't there a St. Josephs Hospital (SJH) or medical complex at Bluffton near Hilton Head ?

Just a guess-

Jasper,
That's a very nice photo ! Would be great to make another one today with your car on exactly the same spot ! (and someone with a Borgward Isabella to keep you company ;^).
Thanks to its previous owner, TD3232 has her history well documented to as far back as 1963 !
The first thirteen years are shrouded in mystery however.

Nick, '50 TD-3232/'53 Wolseley
Nick Herwegh

Nick, that would be great but I don't think I'll drive her that way long (and back!).

PJ, in fact I also thought of a St Josephs Hospital, like Dallas did. Maybe the PO was an employee of SJH and the sticker was a numbered parking voucher?

Jasper
JL Nederhoed

PJ, like Nick and Jasper, the first thing I thought of was a St. Joseph's Hospital parking sticker. I guess hospitals with that ID are scatterd all over the USA but if I were you, I would start a search starting with nearby hospitals and gradually expanding the search geographically. Probably many of them have websites that you could contact via email including your photo of the sticker. Good luck.
Jim Merz

Where are these people with the history of your car? Maybe if someone near them offered to come and copy (scan)the pictures and records they might be more receptive.

Here is a picture of Little T with a previous owner two times back Michael Applegate taken sometime around 1969. Mr. Applegate received the car as a wedding using wedding cars tonbridge present from his wife after he sold his TF to get married. I don't think he ever really drove the car and soon dismantled the car and after moving the pieces with him for several years he sold him to Paul Chikchester who I purchased the car from. I wish I knew further back but Mr. Applegate couldn't remember the previous owners name but there is an old Florida military base sticker on the original front bumper and I have often wondered if they could tell me who the sticker number belonged to that far back.

Richard Taylor TD3983

Richard, if the AFB is still an active base, I'd sure give it a shot. The Pass and ID office might still have the info.
Jim Merz

Jim Merz - Name of the air force base was Toul-Rosieres. It was about 10 miles NE of Toul France. Toul was about 20 miles west of Nancy France. I was stationed in Toul 56-58 with the army and don't remember any other air force bases near Nancy.

J Ostergren

Jim, I guess I am out of luck. The sticker is for Brookley Air Force Base which closed in 1969. Interesting because that is probably the last year Little T was driven before disassembly. Something else interesting not only did the sticker give Brookley as location but if gave the area where on the base it was for, it says Mobile Air Materiel Area and I didn't mispell material it is spelled materiel on the sticker but looks like WORD accepts that as a correct spelling as well.

Regards,
Rich

Dallas, As far as I know from information received through the grapevine, the car originally came from California. I contacted a couple hospitals out there with no luck. I can only go back two owners before me, starting in Birmingham, Alabama and that's where all the information that's available on the car is and can not have! As the saying goes, it takes all kinds.
