MG TD TF 1500 - Voltage Regulator cut in speed

Ever since putting in a NOS 9 post voltage regulator in my TD (replaced a german aftermarket 9 post), I have noticed that the generator light comes on when the car is at normal idle. I note in the TD manual that the regulator can be adjusted to correct for this. I am a bit hesitant playing with the regulator. I am fearful of angering the Price of Darkness. Is this something that is relativly easy or should I just take it to the electrical shop in town?

It sounds like your voltage regulator is working like it should. At idle the ignition light will come on but as rpm increase fade and then go out above 1000-1100 rpm.
I replaced the Hartings 9 post on my 50 TD with an nos Lucas.
There are some very good threads in the archives on this subject.

Bruce:

Run the engine up to about 2000-2500 rpm and using a moving coil voltmeter check the voltage between the D terminal of the dynamo and ground. It should read between 14.5 volts and 15.5 volts. If it does, leave well enough alone.

Bruce - I have a full write up on how to check / set the regulator. Tried to e-m it to you but the address you give dosen't appear to work. If you send an e-m to my own personal address I can then use the reply function to provide you with a copy
