MG TD TF 1500 - Update over heating
| Hello folks Well this is a update to my question about a friends car. He add the thermostat changed and water pump at the same time. So that rules that out. I have an extra temp gauge from my midget. Would we get a good reading from this gauge? It's not the same model car but it is a smith gauge. This is to see if his temp gauge is reading wrong. | An easy calibration method is a pan of boiling water. It is always 212F - or very close when boiling. It will never get any hotter than that. If it's practical you can use it to check the gage and thermostat to get a pretty good idea of how well they are working. Also the volt-amp meter that I got at Sears last year has a thermal couple plug which can be real helpful. Jim |

| I used my wife's candy thermometer to check my temp indicator. I was pleasantly surprised at the accuracy of my gauge. |

| Warm up the engine, let it run, remove the radiator cap and insert the thermometer. |

| It's an unpressurised system - water won't go anywhere. |

| Jason, Be careful anyway. Only the TC and TD were non pressurized. TF has a pressurized system. You didn't mention what model your friend had. |
