MG TD TF 1500 - Tom Lange / TC

Sorry to bomb the board....
Tom, Not sure your email is working?
Sent pictures of the TC but not sure they are getting through. Will be picking it up Thursday and will get better ones as I get it packed up.
Was really hard to see but believe # on dumb iron is 6741.

Dave -- all got through. Imagine - A TC for $3500!

More soon.

a TC for $3,500? details please...
D. Sander

Dave Sheward was good enough to post a few weeks ago about a "TD" on Craigslist near him, listed at $4k, disassembled, missing tub, wheels and engine. Unknown what else is/isn't there, but all the big things ARE - photos show chassis, front end, diff, fenders, bonnet, springs, trans (broken bell-housing), Bleumels wheel, headlights, correct TC carbs and manifolds, flywheel, starter, hubs, drums, seats, radiator shell, driveshaft and tunnel, what appears to be a new upholstery or interior kit, and MANY un-sorted and un-identified boxes. The seller owns a tool store who clearly buys lots of stuff, and we settled on $3500 sight-unseen. Dave S. is a HUGE help in sorting through things and making it possible to get it to me in Maine.

I've got a TC engine under the bench, a new Hutson tub is not too difficult, and wheels are easy.

That's literally ALL I know right now! (Thanks AGAIN, Dave S.!)

IMHO: Tom did good on this one!
Interesting building ...I guess you get your choice of Dry or Lights ...but not both! LOL
Didn't get real good pix or tear into boxes, stuff was kind of hard to get at. Mainly went today to see "what" it's going to take to get it to my place to pack for shipping to Tom. Looks like it's going to take my truck and a flat bed trailer. This going to be like "Reverse Christmas"! Looks like there is some NOS stuff in here as well.

David Sheward 55 TF1500 # 7427

So, Tom is the engine under the bench XPAG 7465?
David Sheward 55 TF1500 # 7427

Don't I wish! But with some creative stamps and bondo, I could MAKE it so...

Oh, wait, after all the discussion about fakes, I better not...

Eagerly waiting for your report tomorrow.

Some hi-lights so far:
It's been a mini scavenger hunt, the way it was packed! 3 wheels, 7 brake shoes.. next box ...cool, 1 more wheel & 1 more shoe! Still hoping for a second tail light!
Stay tuned there WILL be a test.
Unidentified Air Cleaner close up to follow at some point.
New harness & 2 window tan hood in the bag.

It's not that there is a tub somewhere wondering where it's doors are ...it's that we know where some doors are that want their tub back!

David Sheward 55 TF1500 # 7427

David - wheels or drums? Are there actually wheels?

Thanks. Tom
t lange

Dave:

I have an extra set of wheel rims, but are rim laced, not center laced. Interested? Contact me by e-mail directly.

John
John Masters

Sorry drums...no wheels.
John , It's toms car ...I'm just packing it up for shipping to him as it was close to me.

I've got to say that Dave -and Evelyn - are my Superman and Jimmy.

I live close by and could see if they are still there.
RG Taylor

RG - Dave is coordinating this, but I would sure appreciate a run-by.

Basically, I am interested to know if they know ANYTHING about a dismantled TC I recently bought, that is partially restored, and that I assume that shop did. I am missing the tub, engine and wheels, and would go a long way to recover any or all those parts - and pay for them. I have the doors, fenders, etc., but no tub.

Any information about the owner would also be appreciated, or any other contact information about any other employees who may remember something.

I guess I am looking for ANYTHING that may be of use in figuring this out.

Gratefully,

Tom Lange

Amazing! The inter-web is simply amazing!
From a scrap of shipping label to :"Slims Chopper Repair" & address. Got a return for ""Sports Car Repair Service" and a listing for the property for sale with a pic of the garage. Running a very lo-res pic through photo-shop and looks like the floor may be green. 4 old photos I found of the tub are in a shop with a green floor.
From the CL ad (link above) I got an email last night with a name: Lloyd "Slim" Helson and some phone numbers to try!

RG, If you could do a drive by that would be great!
Print these pic and take with you.

and another:

Keeping fingers crossed!

David Sheward 55 TF1500 # 7427

OK kids...I said there would be a test!

Who knows what MG this fits?
Was in with Tom's TC parts.

David Sheward 55 TF1500 # 7427

Slight (very slight)resemblance to the air filter cannister on my '77 F-100 302 V-8. Are you pretty sure it's British? Jud
J K Chapin

Trick question-very, very, sneaky. From a rare German produced MG called the Beetle. My SWAG for the day.
Dan Craig

Dan,
Your good! We have a winner!
It's gotta' be an "MG"...as I see them advertised all the time as such!
Thought I would have some fun with this one, but you are too sharp!

Bet this one has the same Air Cleaner!

David Sheward 55 TF1500 # 7427

Back to serious...Tom asked me to share with you guys.
Had some back problems so was a little slow getting the truck unloaded. (Thanks for your patients Tom!)
Spare carrier, carbs, new stainless exhaust, new black seats, bonnet.

David Sheward 55 TF1500 # 7427

Poor Tom,
Some hard decisions to be made!
2 interiors: Brown one is nice, had been removed, has unused side curtains never cut for windows, nice tonneau, (needs cleaned, but nice, hood, (kinda' funky but has frame), carpet ...not too bad.
Black one: new seats (still wrapped) all new door and interior panel kit, and new carpet set, new tan hood.
Starter w/ "re-build sticker".
Windscreen, glass broken, but all there w/ wiper motor.

Question: I know the "Auster Badge" on my TF is on the wrong side (outside) ...was like that when I got it.
Was The TC the same? (should be in inside?) This one is an "outie".

David Sheward 55 TF1500 # 7427

Should be on the inside
MG LaVerne

LaVerne,
Thanks was just wondering if at some point it actually was on the outside and that was why so many of these end up that way.
