MG TD TF 1500 - TF rear sheet metal question
When I received my tub back from the media blaster one of the sins unveiled was the sheet metal across the rear. The wood has been replaced but the sheet metal was full of holes and covered with bondo; the lower quarters as well. Since I was ordering wheel wells I ordered the cross sheet metal as well. It's a little taller but a good fit. The questions are: Is the vertical seam with the quarters supposed to be filled? It hides under the tank but I'd like it to be right. The metal I removed and the quarters are attached by countersunk sheet metal screws. They will be hidden by upholstery but I wondered if they were nailed originally? Thanks! Jim |

Seam shows. Nails standard. http://www.mg-cars.org.uk/mgtf/Pictures/TF8947/mgtf_tf8947.htm While you are there look at the other unrestored cars in the gallery |

Thanks Chris, That's very helpful. Jim |

Jim its a little taller because it is a TD panel, as Chris said Its nailed on. The seams are not filled, the ply is black as is the tank supports. |

Thanks Rod, It's supposed to be for a TF by Hutson Motors, I suspect perhaps they use the same one for both TD and TF tubs. I thought of shearing off the extra but I couldn't see what it would hurt. For anyone who's interested, their wheel wells fit quite well. Plug welding the sometimes paper-thin original quarters was occasionally a bit of a chase. Jim |

I seem to recall that there is a lip on the bottom edge of the panel that fits into a groove milled into the back board. They are not the same parts for TD & TF. Bud |
