MG TD TF 1500 - TF Fuel Line,Carb to Carb.

Hi All,

I have an originality query regarding the flexible fuel line on TFs connecting the carb to carb.

Originally, did this fuel line go under or over the steel breather tube which goes to the front carb?

I examined the excellent photos taken of TF9052 by Frank Cronin and noticed that the fuel line went under the breather tube. However, the owner of this TF I think indicated to Frank that he in fact had replaced the original fuel lines some time ago as a safety measure.

About to purchase new fuel lines for the resto of the TF1500.Want them supplied with the brass nuts, union etc as per original. Not sure what type Abingdon Spares,Moss, Pelton etc have in stock.

Cheers

Hi Rob -

I noticed the routing of the fuel line on TF9052 also. Two more TFs on Chris Couper's site also have the braided fuel line routed below the breather pipe to the air cleaner.

However a pic of TF6688 shows it routed above the pipe. Although the notes to the pic state that some of the braided fuel lines have been replaced.

In "Road and Track" magazine Jan 1954 there is an engine picture (not the factory photo) showing the line going under.

Lonnie and Matt.,

Thankyou for your comments.

I suspect it may have been placed under the breather tube.Perhaps the Factory wanted to keep the 'armoured' fuel line away from any possibility of contact rub with the underside of the bonnet.

The next question then relates to the correct overall length of the TF carb to carb fuel line.Any takers? 16 inches seems to be the replacement/repro. length, however this may be too long if this line is to go 'comfortably' under the breather tube without contact.
