MG TD TF 1500 - TF Cutaway Limited Edition Prints Offered

MG's attempt to bridge the gap between the iconic MG TD and upcoming MGA. This illustration combines more of the classic cutaway style of ghosting in the exterior panels (and some of the other components as well) with my signature, cross section technique.

24' and 36" illustrations are available printed on 3000 DPI on acid-free, museum quality giclee paper. All prints are numbered and signed.

Both 1250 and 1500 models are offered in a selection of body and interior colors with your choice of steel or wire wheels. Prices start at $85. Flat rate domestic mailing (U.S.) is $7 and flat rate international mailing (to most countries) is $16.50.

Just saying....

David,

Thanks for the heads up. As it would happen, I'm a paid advertiser. If you would look at the top left of the image you posted, you will see my advertisement. I am new to this board and if I have crossed the line on etiquette, I apologize.

DT,
I hope I was not out of line. Several years ago this board was bombarded with "CL like adverts" from first time users and I didn't want to see that happen again.

Your prints are very nice and it is wonderful that you support this board by being a paid advertiser.

Cheers,
David

Hi DT

Nice print - very detailed. I just wanted to mention that, on the TF, the rear fender has a less curved shap at the rear and flows more directly to the rear bumper. One other small item is that, on the interior side of the rear fender inset, the top of the fender inset is actually flat - this allows the top frame to sit lower - this was needed to accommodate the top frame within the lower, downward, slant of the rear body tub line.

Again - very nice job!
DLD

While / of you are at it:
One of the major styling changes from the TD was the "rakish" radiator angle. This one looks a bit too upright for a TF.
David Sheward 55 TF1500 # 7427

Very pretty job DT. Obviously a lot of work with AI or similar.

I hope your skin is thick as I wish to add a couple of comments with no malice intended. But it all boils down to how original do you want this to appear?

First, wind wings were not a factory option. They were a dealer option. Ditto, the fog light(s).

You have shown tail-pipe clamps at each end of the silencer. This is not on my car which is absolutely pukka-original, as I am the only owner. My TF has a one-piece fully welded system and came to me new like that.

It also should be pointed out on your custom "choose your model and size print" pull down menu for the 1250 it has the option for square tail lights. This was never an option for the TF. All 1250 and 1500 tail lights were round during production.

Minor nit pick is the engine and transmission color should be red not green.

Frank Cronin

One more - exhaust should be painted black not stainless.

Tough crowd!
David Sheward 55 TF1500 # 7427

Well, first, I thought I clicked the box to notify me when someone posted to this thread so I could respond. Guess not. Second, thanks to all who have chosen to "nit Pick". That's how these illustrations become more accurate. In my defense, I'm working from 55 TF the accuracy of, may be a bit suspect considering a few of the comments. Now, let's see if I can address these roughly in the order they came in.

David S - Not the slightest offense taken. I fully expected that my first time post might raise some comments but a fella's got to start somewhere.

DLD - I drew both of those profiles directly from photographs taken from friend's TF 1500. That said, if you'd care to post up photo to illustrate your point, I'd very much appreciate it.

David S. - Re: radiator shell rake. I matched this to the profile shot I took of a 1500 and confirmed against several other photos. Also keep in mind that this is an absolute profile which means that there's no perspective and can make some of the finer points look a little "off".

Gordon C - I don't how thick my skin is, but constructive commentary is always welcome. The wind wings and fog lamp were some "artistic license" as I simply liked the way they looked. Given, though, that all who are interested in the print might prefer the illustration without them, I'm happy to make them options on the order form. On the clamp, could you post a photo for me?

Frank C - Thanks for the head's up on the order form error. It was based on the TD form and I obviously missed removing one of the options. It's about to be corrected.

David S - Re: tough crowd. Bring it on! While I may be the guy executing the art work, every one of my illustrations is, in truth, the shared work of everyone who has chosen to contribute their knowledge.
DCT Townsend

Okay all. I've updated the order form to correct the 1250 and 1500 print size descriptions and made the fog lamp and wind wings options for both models.

If I could get one (or several) of you to post pictures of the rear exhaust hanger and rear wheel well area, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

DT

Frank, thanks for the pics. Very helpful.

Say, how do you set this thread so it notifies me of any postings? I still don't seem to be able to figure it out.
DCT Townsend

I just looked at the Customizing otptions, and I didn't see anything that would notify the poster of a reply...

Thanks for the info on the automated response (or lack thereof). While poking around in the customization area I did figure out how to shoe the image in line. Much better now.

Thanks to all who took the time to provide suggestions on making my TF illustration more accurate. Special thanks to Frank Cronin who stopped by to see me at BCNH's (British Car Club of New Hampshire) Show of Dreams this past weekend. Frank was good enough to point a few details that I hadn't caught. I did get the chance to surprise him when he spotted the "Vokes Guilford" script on the air cleaners.

Attached is a corrected drawing with: reshaped rear fender (also added the ridge missing in the original), lowered position of tail lamp, removed packing from bumpers/bumper guards, brought the paint line on the fuel tank all the way to the edge as I understand the entire end panel was painted, removed the clamps connecting the muffler to the front and rear pipes so it appears "welded" as per the originals and, lastly, added a taste more rake to the radiator shell.

I also made the fender mirror, fog/driving lamp, and wind wings delete options on the order form, meaning the come as "standard" but you can request that one or all be left off.

Regards

DCT Townsend

Hi DCT -

In looking over your revised drawing - still very nice by the way - I notice that the rear fender is still not quite correct for a TF (hope I am not seen as being too picky).

The rear fender change from the TD to TF is actually quite pronounced. The bottom of the rear tip of the fender actually sits even with the TOP of the rear bumper - and the line of the rear fender after the wheel arch is almost a straight line (on its bottom edge).

I also wanted to mention again that the interior wheel arch (the one that is (interior colored) should be flat on the top surface rather than rounded - this was to allow the top frame to sit lower down.

The top edge of the rear tub of the TF (the portion of the car after the door hinge) actually slops downward from the seat back to the gas tank - this is rather obvious on a TF and was an intentional change to the TD in an effort to make the car look lower (as was the bonnet slant - which you show).

Again very nice drawing - best to you with your project.

Maybe someone has a direct side photo of a TF that will illustrate what I mention above - I am unable to load photos just now.

Best regards,
DLD

DLD,

Thanks for your observations. I'm in the process of correcting the rear fender and tub shapes. The wheel arch is an illusion created by the rear fender overlay. While I was at it I corrected the wires to the proper 48-spoke version as well as put more arch into the headlamp nacelle.

Regards,

DT
DCT Townsend

Okay, I'm back for more. Here's the most recent version including 48-spoke wheels, redrawn knock-offs, more curve in the headlamp nacelle, completely redrawn back ending including the fender and tub.

Closer?

DCT Townsend

Just finished a 1500 in Birch Grey w/red interior for a gentleman. Wasn't sure how I was going to feel about the look but I rather like it. The mid-tone colors just seem to real show off the components the best.

DCT Townsend

Nice work DT.
Suggest just a little more green in the body colour to avoid the battleship-grey look.

Cheers,
Matthew.

M Magilton

Matthew,

Alas, you're seeing the limits of the RGB color definition from the JPEG image. The grey in the print file does, indeed, have a green cast to it.
