MG TD TF 1500 - TD Wiper Motor.

Hi Everybody,
Does anyone have a wiring diagram for re-winding the armature for a TD windscreen wiper motor.

I have tried to follow the original wiring route but it seems that the commutator assembly was put in place after the windings thus preventing me from unwinding the original wire to its source.

The enamelled wire is 0.2 mm diameter and it would be helpful if the number of turns required were also available, otherwise I will have to work by weight or length.

If this works out I will take a series of pics to help others in the future as I could find nothing in the archives on the subject. Motors are no longer available in the UK.

Thanks

David.

Many years ago, I used to have a contact inside Lucas Service in Birmingham. For a pint of maple syrup, he'd send me all the right docs I would ask for including the technical specs for the CR and CRT wiper motors. Unfortunately, these came by fax, and in those days, I used to have a "wet process" fax machine.

Now after many years, when I now need them, my copies have faded to near-blank because the chemicals or sunlight or whatever, has faded them to unreadable.

I would love dearly to get a clean or scanable photocopy set of these - Lucas Workshop Instructions for the models CR and CRT, Section J-2, Issue 2, August 1951, pages 1 to 5. Or better, scanned copies, or even a pdf.

I've written to Lucas twice, and in both instances, my letters were returned, and my contact has long ago passed away.

Can anybody help?

Gord,

Do you know the difference between a CR, a CRT and a CRW wiper motor?

Thanks,

David,

Moss London, tell me that they have 'quite a few' wiper motors coming in soon. Apparently they are on late delivery.

Gene,

After straining my eyes for 20 minutes using a strong magnifying glass, I believe it says:-

" ... the model CRT incorporates a protective thermostat which, under conditions of excessive heating, cuts off current to the motor until normal conditions are restored. If the blades are prevented from moving, (as for example, by ice or packed snow on the windscreen in extreme winter conditions) the thermostat will operate as soon as the motor becomes hot; normal working conditions will be resumed if the obstruction has been removed when the motor has cooled. The cool-down period will depend on general operating conditions and may be as long as 10 minutes. Excessive heating from any other cause will also temporarily stop the wiper, but again will automatically restart as soon as the temperature falls”.

Wordy, huh?

I know where there's a complete set of Lucas Workshop Instructions in Montreal, but the owner won't let it out of his sight so I can scan it.

Gord,

I was actually more interested in the CRW motor. These are being remanufactured and are available at http://www.vintagecarparts.co.uk/en/1191~wiper+motor+Lucas+CWX+type-details/ for $253.75 each.

I bought one and it's almost indistinguishable from the original on the outside...but maybe the wiper arm swing is different? Haven't mounted it on the car yet...that will be a while still.

Just checked that link above and it's not working unless you cut and paste it into your browser address line.

Also, I've changed computers recently and now I can't stay logged in as a "Member" to this site any more...every time I come to the BBS I have to log in (notice I don't bother most of the time). Does anyone know what setting I need to change? And no, I don't have this problem on other sites so I'm pretty sure my 'cookies' are set right.

Thanks in advance,

Gene,

After you log in, book mark (add to your favorites) the page that comes up, and use it in your browser. That way, you will always be logged in when you select the site.

Gordon - "I know where there's a complete set of Lucas Workshop Instructions in Montreal, but the owner won't let it out of his sight so I can scan it." If you have a laptop computer, pick up a Canon LIDE scanner, which is quite small and portable, take both to the gentleman's and ask if you can scan the document while he watches. We even carry the scanner and laptop and our scanner with us where ever we travel (even in the MG) so my wife can scan any genealogy tidbits she might find. Cheers - Dave

Gordon,
In the past I was happily surprised to see the improvement in readability of such kind of document by just photocopying it. Maybe try one page....

Further to Davids suggestion: a digital camera does the same. Swith to macro-mode, zoom-in untill the page completely fills out the screen, no-flash so hold it steady.

David Tinker Tried that other address it doesn't work. I notice that it doesn't have .uk at the end could that be the trouble?

Mike Christie -- If the wipers motors that are coming in are like the voltage regulators, don't bother, the regulators last about 6 mos. and fail.

Let the buyer beware!!

Hi All, Today I have ordered a wiper motor from Vintage Car Parts as I need to get my wipers working for a rally this weekend( weather forecast not too good!!) I will update you on what I receive.

That said I still want to recondition my original motor when the necessary information is available.

Cheers.

For David Braun...

Thanks for the suggestion to add the site to "My Favorites" AFTER I logged in...that worked perfectly.

Even for non-MG matters the members of this site are great.
