MG TD TF 1500 - TD REAR SUSPENSION

I am in the process of renewing the complete rear suspension on our TD using NEW springs. Does any one have any comments or suggestions other than using the U-bolt buffer plates and urethane shackle busings ?? Are urethane spring seat pads available to replace the rubber pads ??
Steve

Brown and Gammons suggest using TF springs to lower the rear, not having driven a TD with TD springs I can not say if it improves the ride, as for pads, I think the MGA ones are very close so should be available for the TD.

Urethane spring pads from MG midget / Austin Sprite are the correct size to use for MGTD. MGA springs are wider than TD and the pads distort around the U bolts. Midget springs are the same width as TD and the pads are readily available.

Phil,
Thanks for the info on the spring pads, I'm sure I can find them locally..

Just put TD springs in my TF to raise the height. The working load of a Td spring is 500lb with free camber of 4.1 and the TF is only 397 lbsfree camber 2.85 The The spring will sag and you might want to take this into acount. Happy Springing

I went through the whole process as part of my restoration. I just used the pads ordered from Moss. I did notice when I took the springs apart that I had an extra short spring vs. what was shown in the Moss parts manual, so take a good look at everything before you dismantle. Getting the rubber bushings in the damper arms proves that you CAN get a square peg into a round hole!...good luck
