MG TD TF 1500 - TD Pedal extenders - Help

I need brake and clutch pedal extenders for my short legs. I tried to find a set for sale anywhere but no luck. Moss no longer has them and there are none to be found on eBay, although I understand a set went for $120 (yikes!) not too long ago. If anyone knows where I can buy a set, or if any of you guys have a set you'd like to sell me, please let me know. I recall seeing some dimensional plans on an MG site but don't remember where. If necessary I'll make them if I have to.
Thanks guys,
Mike

Mike, I do have a pair I made and don't use, but I think even making your own would be simpler than getting them from NZ.

However, one thought from your photo: I've always believed that the extenders should be fitted with the large flat against the pedal, so that they are firmly held against rotation. I can't find a diagram of this, but others may be able to supply one.

Contact Declan Burns he made a set and knowing his attention for detail has probably documented his design.

The photo is one I lifted from the net and I noticed the same thing you did regarding the connection side of the extender used. I think whoever did this was trying to gain a little more spread between the clutch and the brake pedals.

I emailed Declan. Thanks for jogging my memory regarding whose design I saw some time ago.

Has anyone seen extenders that will lower the pedals?

Mike,
I got your mail. I have attached the drawing if you want to make the extensions yourself. I could make them for you but I am packing my bags for bypass surgery as of Monday so I will be out of action for about two weeks.

Wishing you well for the surgery Declan. We will be expecting you to have lots of time to post messages while recuperating.

Thanks Chris,
At least it is not the master cylinder-just one of the flexible lines where the usual wire brush treatment failed! Braking all to one side. New Teflon pipe on order but then expect the brakes to pull to the other side!
Nothing like going round in circles.

I think you should fit pedal extenders any way round that suits to give the best pedal clearance and operation for you. I've altered mine a few times to try and improve things, but I always end up with the brake too close to the accelerator or the clutch. I don't have large feet, so how those who do cope with it, I really don't know. The simplest form of pedal extender need not be circular in cross-section, just a short flat strip or angle, 5 or 6mm thick with a hole at both ends.
All the best Declan, we expect to hear from you soon.

I too would like to wish you well again. Thanks for all the help you've given me over my short experience on this site. I think we all look forward to sharing your knowledge in future correspondence on this site and others.
Best of Health,

Pleased to hear it is not the master cylinder Declan.

I like the simplicity of your extender idea, but without a shoulder, it's only friction keeping the extender from rotating around the floor crank bolt. It could be a flat piece of stock rather than round though, if you cut a shoulder at each end. I think it makes for less cutting.

A flat piece of stock about 3/4" square might work. David hit it on the head back in the beginning when he mentioned the importance of having a large flat section against the pedal to avoid rotation when the pedal is pressed. Don't just depend upon the tightness of the bolt. Bud

Declan,

Been there done that. Recuperation will be a great time to think about future projects. Best wishes for a great operation and a full recovery. We are with you one-hundred percent.

Mike,
If you look at the drawing it already has a shoulder at each end to prevent it rotating. It is just a longer version of the original design which is shown at the top of the drawing and in the photo.

A very simple way to make something with identical functionality is a sandwich of two flat strips - overlapping to give a shoulder at either end. Either weld together or use a bolt and epoxy.

I didn't know that I had pedal extenders after over 72,000 miles. I am now going to remove them and see if I like it better.
Cheers, Byron.

I have a set of pedal extenders that have been removed from my TD. If there is any interest email me for pics and info. Ghowell1949@gmail.com
