MG TD TF 1500 - TD on Ebay Yikes!

Check out this listing on ebay: 130398054099

another "perfect" restoration. Look at the front fenders, glove box, botched interior (look behind the seat) no bumper overiders, and... NO TOP!

I still do not understand why when someone puts the money needed to restore a TD and they don't stay with an original look.

Front fenders are most likely the result of hitting something.

The green material on the dash plate? Why not just get the rattle can and paint it correctly?

This is an early TD as indicated by the generator, and that it only has a oil pressure gauge and not the dual gauge.

It has turn signals, so may be around the transition numbers (if the turn signals are original)

Why not spend a few bucks and get the correct shift knob?

Chrome headlight brackets are not an unusual find, but why not paint as original?

Did you notice there is no breather tube coming off the valve cover? That is going to surprise someone when they drive it.

It also appears they painted the frame white also. Note the firewall pillers and small part of the frame you can see in the left engine picture.
Bruce Cunha (1950 TD 4139)

Sent them some questions on the car and asked if they know why the fenders were bobbed. I also pointed out why it is not a good idea to run without the breather tube.
Bruce Cunha (1950 TD 4139)

They bobbed the fenders so the brakes will cool faster.

I have mixed results from writing to TD sellers on Ebay. For the guys who have a great vehicle, they really appreciate my comments and wishes for good luck. For the others with questionable products, they are not at all happy to hear from me. Basically they are not pleased to know that there is a group out there with knowledge which strips their con open to the world.I keep telling myself to forget the contacts since it doesn't really stop their attemps to hoodwink the uninformed.....but I keep doing it anyway. No self restraint.
With warm regards,

IMHO: It's too bad we don't have a way to direct the "bidders" to this site. My car was an ebay purchase but I did not discover this BB untill after I purchased it. I would have loved to read any comments made about it. I had "some knowledge" of T cars and their market value, (had wanted one since I was 3 and had been "looking" for a number of years for a 1500) but as far as what was "correct" had nowhere near the knowledge I have now ...and that still is not close to what one can learn from reading this BBS. The listing for mine "claimed 100 point car" ...not even close then, and still is not. If it had been ...would have been the deal of the century! I was shocked when I "won" the bid as it was.
I would have loved to have seen any comments made here about "Izzy" from the experts on this site.

Have certainly seen worse, however, i think they 'rounded' the glovebox opening in lieu of finding a door....that really sucks for the next owner...!!! Fenders?...I miss the little 'swoop'....?

I wrote to the seller and asked if the fender change was potentially due to an accident. I also commented on the lack of the breather pipe. They responded very fast Here is what they said.

Here's the large plate info:

TD / 12492

Engine XPAD/TD2/LXH12820

Here's the small plate info:

Body type 22381

Body # 11863/81763

The breather tube was overlooked while servicing and will be re-installed.

We have no information on the fender modification. My experience has been that the fender "cuts" were done to give the car more of the MB SSK look. That appearance debate goes all the way back to on-house design debates as the car was being built. That said, a parking lot ding could easily result in the fender lip modification.
Bruce Cunha (1950 TD 4139)

Car comes back on Georges list as

12492 12820 22952 LHD Ted Wagner, OH. USA
Bruce Cunha (1950 TD 4139)

Is this the one everyone is talking about? This one, with those clipped fenders look a bit odd.
