MG TD TF 1500 - TD Headlight Mount

How does one identify a left vs right headlight mounting bracket (Radiator to wing)? I have one that is badly distorted but cant tell which side it may have came from. Moss shows different sides but I just cant see it

Thanks

Bill, If you offer them up to your radiator surround and your mudguard you will see the difference in the angle where it fits your mudguard.
This will identify which is which but if one is damaged this will be more difficult.
Hope this helps.
Rob.

Thank you Rob for your suggestion. Unfortunately the panels are off the car for painting so that isn't an option at the moment I was hoping there was something as a visual cue when laid side by side.

Bill, the larger size hole on the radiator end of the bracket goes to the front.

Thanks Hugh I'll look at it this AM and determine which one I'm in need of

Hugh: Great observation. I was scratching my head trying to think of how to discern the slight differences in angles of the brackets and relating that to Bill, especially since one of his was bent.

Recently when putting my front end back together I pondered the possibilities here too and compared the angles with the brackets etc. If I had only tried to put the bolt in the bracket it would have been instantaneously obvious.

I think the lesson here is that why things may seem to be abstract, once you step back and see how it all works it's really quite simple :-)

Hugh is correct, the bolt is a shoulder bolt, so the larger diameter hole faces forward and the nut faces backwards... unless it's my car, someone used two rights and I have one nut facing forward... something to fix one of these days.

2 rights make a wrong Blair :) Cheers

It never ceases to amaze me by the wealth of astute observation and knowledge that is on this sight. Thanks Hugh for that one!

So in looking at my bent/twisted piece I've determined I need a left mounting bracket. How about it Hugh, do you have one lying around?
