MG TD TF 1500 - TD fuel injection

Ever run your MG engine without a carburettor? You can by using a manual "throttle body fuel injection." Fill a trigger type squirt oil can with gasoline. Hook up the ignition and starter systems. Crank the engine and squirt a little fuel into the intake ports. After the engine starts you'll have to keep on using your "throttle body fuel injector" to keep it going. Works great for cold starting and checking for carbs not working. I use it to start lawnmower engines in the spring if the diaphram carb fuel pump dries out or others have let them gum up. I have an electric start riding mower which will not start even with the choke unless I use a little "throttle body fuel injection" on it the first time in the spring.

Blake - Sounds great, but doesn't your finger get a little sore at the end of long trips? ; ) Dave

I've done the same thing, but maybe you should add a disclaimer regarding singed eyebrows and facial hair if a flashback occurs ;)

Spring must be here!
Things are getting lighthearted again as we move out of hibernation!
Just a reminder....keep the bonnet open if your "fireing up" for the first time after a long cold winter...just in case the old "SU CARB EYE WASH" is stuck in the down mode!;-)!!!!
Keep the fire ext. handie!
and remember...........
On the other end is your glass cutter ..cuts all glass old or new, thick or thin....just look at that cut!

Distributor not working? No Problem!!
Simply pull the ignition leads out of the distributor and tape them to the fingers of your left hand. Now when you crank over the engine, tap the appropriate finger against the positive battery terminal. Dont forget the firing sequence now!
And with your right hand you could be using the Blake-O-Matic injection system whilst steering with your teeth.
Then there is the alternative 'Flintstone' braking system.

Matt,
Ok ...that worked great!....however....how the heck do I get out of first gear?

David,
Since we do not rev on the up change, your right hand should be free to up-shift. Alternatively, introduce Mrs Sherwood to the novelty of left handed 'teamwork' gearchanges. You can also downshift using your right leg hooked around the gearlever, being carefull not to accidentally open the passenger door with your asbestos-lined Flintstone brake shoe.

Matt,
I will have to try the "teamwork" method....I had to do some mods from the "normal proceedure" and switch to "right-handed dizzy mode" as I needed the left one to reach behind me, pull the hand crank off the rear of the boot to depress the clutch with the left hand..(just untill I get my "clutch-foot" back from the "tundra-hoof" repair shop)...so I have been using backside of the right knee to operate the Blake-O-Matic injection system!
Cheers,
David

Don't forget that if you have enough fillings in your teeth, your head can substitute as an antenna for your radio!

FWIW:

Back in the mid seventies, my brother bought such an item, (fuel injection throttle body). It was intended to replace the carb(s) of any small car engine. He paid over $100 for it and was going to either place it on his TR or use my spare XPAG engine as a guenia (sp?) pig. Don't know what ever happened to it.
