MG TD TF 1500 - TD Foot Ramp

Were all TD's fitted with a passenger foot ramp or foot rest? A friend of mine has purchased a carpet set for his restoration which has 2 pieces of carpet for the passenger side. I have been taking photos of every TD I see both inside and out and I can't see any indication of a foot ramp here in Australia. Were they fitted or have the owners deleted them in their restoration?

R Browne. There is no sign of a fooe ramp in my 1950 TD. here is only a foot well. I can't see any room for it either.

My '50 #3966 has a foot ramp on the passenger site.

BTW, it's a RHD...

My '50 TD had a foot ramp originally. (there were signs of the attachment, but it was missing. I installed one on the refurb. It was and is on the passenger side. Between the foot ramp and the O/S handle, the passenger stays in her seat!

FWIW,
The space under the foot rest is a great place for a small tool bag, or other small spares,,,,, My foot rest is not bolted in, and easily removed to get at the tool bag,,

Steve, how is your foot ramp secured to the floor? Hinged?
Jim Merz

Jim,
Mine is a "press fit" between the trannie cover and the side,,, no hinge,,,,, but others have used a hinge,,

When I got my 1950 TD (TD 1851) it had a foot rest and the carpeting goes right over it. As Steve said, it is a great place to store stuff.
I brought my wires from my oxygen sensor thru a hole I punched in the firewall just behind the footrest and coiled all the extra wire in there.

Anybody able to post a pic of an original footrest? If it's supposed to stop the passenger from sliding forward the obvious question is why doesn't the same thing happen to the driver? Apart from the steering wheel (which comes in pretty handy during a panic stop), the only difference is the pedals & as none of the three are designed to prevent the driver from sliding forward, my guess is it's either there for a short passenger to bear down on in an emergency or it's just about passenger comfort. Were they originally fitted to all TD's? Good question Rob. If so was this the first thing that a new owner threw into the rubbish bin, along with the oil bath air filter, as being decidedly unsporty? Was this just an optional extra? I'm aware of the history of my car since 1962 & there was no evidence of a foot rest/ramp ever fitted to my TD. There are a few TD owners here in Sydney who would love to know the answers! Cheers.

It's for passenger comfort. Without it the passenger (unless he/she is VERY tall) will suffer from foot drop. There are two holes in the firewall that are intended to secure the foot ramp. Do you have them? Bud

All I can remember about fitting the footrest on the passengers side is, it is one hell of a stretch to get your hand on the bolt head inside the leg tunnel and put the nut, washer and spring washer on the other end at the fire wall. Some things just need two people. If you use stiff nuts - you can leave it a little loose and then you can access and hide stuff underneath it :)

I assume the TD footrest would have been installed the same.

True to life's forces my footrest was long gone when I purchased my car.

Bruce,
Yes an O2 sensor. It is to compensate for my lack of experience in tuning the carb on the supercharger.

I have it installed on my positive earth car and hope to test it by this weekend when my car is back together.
