MG TD TF 1500 - Steering wheel hub

The position of the retaining screw for the hub was mentioned, and as i'm making a couple more wheels for people, just wanted to take a survey on where the screw is (it matches the position of the "key" in the shaft and can be installed in three positions if the shaft was removed down by the steering box).
Am assuming mine was stock and is in the 20 after 4 position when the wheels are straight.

Gordon, in my TD steering wheel, presumably original, the position of the screw is at 8 oclock , as is the groove for the key in the adjusting shaft. This cannot be changed, if the MG logo must be upright, since the MG medallion has also a locating slot, and cannot be rotated in the hub.

The shaft can be in three positions... and I think it is the chrome ring that has the locator slot and the medalion can rotate inside it?(forget), but mine is at 20 after 4 and was centered.

Gordon,

In my case, neither the medallion nor the chrome ring can rotate in the hub. There is only one possible assembling mode for the three pieces. This forces the screw to be at the 8 o¡¦clock position. Then, the hub has only one groove to match the key in the short adjusting splined shaft. This groove is in the same position as the hole for the hub screw. The adjusting shaft has a long key way (I suppose that its mission is only avoiding that the wheel comes off while adjusting it) again in the same position as the key for the hub. The inner steering column has a hole for housing the shaft key, which must be at the 8-o¡¦clock position when the MG logo is upright.

Hence, in my case, there is only one possible assembling mode for everything between the inner column and the medallion: the screw and keys at the 8 o¡¦clock position, and the clamping bolt opposite.

There is however, a possibility of adjusting the steering wheel, if the shaft key is removed (really my steering system came in that way). As told, this key only avoids that the adjusting shaft and the wheel come off while pulling adjusting. This would not be a big problem unless done while driving ļ. In that way, the adjusting shaft (and the wheel) can be assembled rotating it around the splines.

Gordon, my experience concurs with Jesus' comments. To go to a position other than 8 o'clock requires other modifications. My sample size for this is 3 steering wheels/hubs.

Thats interesting... mine was straight, the medalion centered and the keyway lower right (20 after 8). Which put the screw in the same position.

Tom... I have been rebuilding the wheels with wood rims.
