MG TD TF 1500 - Steering wheel

I am thinking of replacing my original steering wheel with an after market Moto-Lita type wheel. Has any one an opinion on this for make, style, size etc.
Thanks.

On a TC I went from the 3 spoke EXU 17" down to a three spoke 15" using the original boss and center MG plate. Oak rim over a solid, one piece, aluminum frame.

The original wheel was not a solid one piece, as shown in this pic.

As long as replacement looks the part and you are comfortable with it, then it will be fine. I chose a 4 spoke Moto Lita with a padded leather rim and 15" diameter. It needs to be flat rather than dished or you will end up with it too close to your chest.

Thank you D McKellar and Dave for your input.
Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

The smaller diameter makes it a LOT easier to get in and out of the car,,,,

I have a smaller leather wrapped one in my MGB and my TF came to me with a well used one.

MG LaVerne

Not to everyones liking but I put some walnut on it and I much prefer it over the skinny flexible stock repro I had on it for a time. They only down side is the new wheels and hubs are crazy expensive.

I would think that wheel dangerous, LaVerne. You should have made it thicker!

Happy Christmas to all MMM and T-Series enthusiasts, from Gord in Rockburn, where the temperature forecast for Christmas Day is 19°C (abt. 67f) and of course a Green Christmas.

Question, Are the new Brookland wheels full size or do they make a smaller version? PJ

Wife say it belongs on a boat Gord. I really like the feel of it going down the road.

Merry Christmas to you as well.. snow in our forecast for Christmas Day. Off now to do some MG work.

Paul,

The Brooklands wheel is available in two sizes - 17" and 15½", two colours, and a variety of hubs. I have one of each - a 17" on my PA, and a 15½" on my TF. For more info go to:-

You can readily use the much cheaper MGB hub by machining away the splines and replacing with a 2degree taper, then filing a slot - providing you have access to a small lathe. The hubs are generally plenty thick enough and are probably all made from the same blank casting anyway.

I bought a 15 1/2 Brooklands wheel from John Kimble about 7 years ago and I'm very hsppy with it and I have the same feeling as the MGA and it's easier to get in and out of.
