MG TD TF 1500 - Speedometer Sick or Not?

Through the BBS and a visit from Bud and Paul the question of what I have was resolved it turned out I have a 50 engine, chassis anddrivetrain, with a 52-53ish dash (including speedo, tach etc) Question my all gauges work with the exception of the speedometer. The cable turns when running ( disconnected from Speedo and square shaft inside armor cable turns appropriately. My question is do I have an 1950 TD spewedometr cable that won't run the speeedometr or is the dished concave 1952+ speedo sick or mismatched to the 50 cable. Any help advice appreciated before I waste time or money. For those of you other than Bud and Paul that have helped so far brake drums on fuel pump changed out and car racing down xway at 55 with 60 lbs oil pressure and I am having a ball

My prob is the cable doesn't turn behind the speedo head. I think I am using the wrong cable though - the inner has squared off ends at both sides which would fit into female squared housings (as per the speedo head). Looking at the output from the gear box (with a mirror) I think this end of the cable should be circular with a single spline or there should be an adapter. Can someone advise please.

A common problem with speedo cables is that the retaining clip that holds the inner in the outer wears out and disappears. This causes the inner to disengage from the speedo once the cable starts turning that is when you drive, even though you have mapted them. You might check that this clip is there. I have made the part by cutting a slot in a small washer and filing it to the appropiate thickness.

Cables are the same. Comment above correct and happens. Take a small screwdriver, file a nail square, or whatever, stick it in the speedo drive hole and spin it. The needle should fick upward. If no movement, something may be broken inside.
