MG TD TF 1500 - Side curtain box door

Anyone know the dimensions of the felt that partially covers the inside of the side curtain storage door?
I've searched the archives and haven't found anything but pictures. There appears to be about an inch to 1 1/2 inches of "vinyl" showing around the edges.

When you refit the lid don't bother with the hinges. You find it much easier to store the side screens if you can lift the lid out.

The felt covering extends about 1/2 from the edges of the door. Cheers, Dave

Jan, first time I've see or thought of your suggestion. Brilliant.

Also have a look at the pics of original installations on Chris Couper's Original MG TD midget site in the Gallery. I know you've asked for dimensions but these pics will get you as near as dammit. Doug Pelton (FTFU) also has a video on the TC side curtain door interior felt installation. Can't recall if he mentions dimensions but it's also worth a look. Cheers

Not sure if this is about TD or TF.
Here is some of the factory upholstery on my TF, staples and all.

On my TF the black trim, as shown on Matt's pic, was about 3/4" clear from the edge of the panel. The felt ended about halfway under that.
One thing you can be sure of is that there will be some variation from car to car - the felt will have been cut out to a set size, but the trim just fitted by eye.

This post will extend to several entries.
I dont know if its germane but I think so.
I believe I have posted some of this before so forgive the multi pictures.

I purchased my TD side curtian Felt of eBay at about 1/2 price.
It came with installation instructions and diagram. (See attachment)

Notice that Moss says "Fit it to your box"

Now I found that since the box is not uniform in width the Cutting diagram is not correct.

The next two posts are pictures of, or close to, how I cut mine.

I chose to cut it into two pieces since trying one piece with contact cement was not successful.

Once having fitted the felt to the inside of the box, I measured the room left and cut the top to fit the remaining space.

Some where I had a piece if edging. It may have come with the kit?
I did not like the idea of rusty staples. I did not have any SS ones so I used contact cement to adhere the edging to the felt and then the felt + edging to the top.

Photo of the underside of my TF's door. This was copied from the original.

You will note that I mentioned in my previous posting there are no hinges fitted and the lid simply lifts out. This makes storing and removing the side screens MUCH easier and there are not rattles.

Thanks for all the input. I ended up with about 7/8 inch of exposed vinyl around the edge. Even though I like the idea of no hinges I did go with hinges.
