MG TD TF 1500 - Semi-Sealed Headlights

Just found some NOS semi-sealed beam headlights. While the reflectors are fine, the glass lens seems a little dirty on the inside. Anyone know a good way to clean these things? Is it safe to just spray some glass cleaner in? Thanks.
Jean

Jean, You have 2 options. The first and most complicated, and probably not necessary in your case, is to carefully pry/cut the glass rim away from the underlying reflector, clean things up and reglue. This is usually only necessary if there is corrosion and/or the reflectors need resilvering. The second option is to carefully inset a sponge or a cleaning rag throgh the hole and clean off the accumulated crud. I would not spray any cleaning agents in there directly since it may get on the reflector and either streak it up or (horrors) remove some of the coating. Then you have got an expensive fix!! In any case, be very careful, since there is not a lot of room between the glass and the reflector especially on the edges.

Rob:

Do you know where one can get lamps resilvered. I have several sets which are fine except the reflective surface is bad.

Hi Blake, The fellow I used in the past retired about 1 yr ago. There is a guy that I used to resilver my mirrors a while back who can probably handle a reflector. His company's name is Reflected Image in CT 203-484-0760. Give him a call and see if he is willing to do it. Another guy that some of the local MG members have used is a guy named Steve from Steve's Auto Restoration in OR who also has lenses/gaskets available and does resilvering of headlight reflectors. His number is 503-665-2222. Post results on the BBS because I am sure there are others out there that have the same problem. I am sure that I too will need to know, since I drive my car in all kinds of crappy weather and the continuous rain/sleet/snow that we get in Upstate NY works its way into the lights over time.

Sorry for the duplicate message but I found a web site for Steves Auto Restoration

As usual I have no financial interest in the site/ process.... blah, blah, blah
