MG TD TF 1500 - running board placement

I am putting the fenders and running boards back on my 52 TD----could someone give me a measurement that would be very helpful----at the center of the door opening (plus/minus---about in line with the rear of the shortest (inboard) chrome/rubber strip on the running board)how far down is the top of the running board? thanks very much in advance----
TCK Tom

Tom,
The best thing to do is put the hood on and latch it to the front fenders. Mount the fenders but don't bolt them to the tub yet. Bolt the running boards to the fenders. Now mount the running boards to the tub, keeping the edge flush with the back of the tub and the bottom even with the bottom of the rear fender. Now bolt the fenders and running boards to the tub. Each fender has two screws and each running board has three 1/4" BSF bolts. I don't know where you are in Vermont, but you're welcome to come see mine or I could give you the coordinates of other TDs in the state.

Tom, to answer your question, the measurement on my car is 2 3/4 inches down from the top of the sill at this point, on both sides.
This may vary on some cars as to the amount of arch or sag in the running boards.
I focused on getting a smooth arc or flow from the front fenders all the way back to the end on the running board. With the end of the board matching the bottom of the rear fender(and the rubber bumper piece in place), and the fender bolts finger tight on both fenders, I raised or lowered the running board in the center until the line looked good to the eye and also was level to the body. I then marked the holes for the bolts through the body sill.
May have been overkill but I had replaced the wood and had no holes to go by.

dallas----thankyou very much--just what i was hoping for-----i had to replace some wood also and am lacking any old placement holes------i'll go see what my current roughed in distance is----thanks again

Once the front "wings" are attached, what is the distance from the bottom of the bonnet to the top edge of the wing? (Sorry if this hi-jacks, but I thought it would be directly related).

The guys are right on. Most important to have a smooth sweeping line down the side from front to rear. The headlight bracket/tie bar assembly may also pull the fenders up a bit, but dont' think that will matter that much. I will try to measure my car tonight. George

Aprox. 2-3/4" both sides for the running boards. George

The measurement under the door is not the critical dimension. As stated above;
first - the hood should close snugly
Second- the fender should sweep down and back, with the running board continuing this line, a smooth even seamless line.
Third- the bottom of the running board should be even with the bottom of the rear fender.
Once these are all correct then the space between the door and running board should be about 2 1/2 inches.
Remember these were hand built cars, and no two were exactly alike. The measurement between the door and running board is what it is... But not as critical as the three items mentioned above

thanks everbody---with the advice and some tweeking I have things pretty well lined up and the distance I have is 2-5/8" +/-............pretty good i guess for hand assembled (twice)-------once at the factory and once here in Vt.--------

There is a great side view of a red TD in the new TSO magazine that shows the fender curve/running board alignment. You may also notice me, a mermaid (!)and club member Al Cook in the picture. George
