MG TD TF 1500 - RF95 Regulator Setup

Having removed the regulator armature(with moving contact)to true the points, I now seek to set it up again. My TD manual goes into detail about the mechanical setup, but refers I believe to a drawing of the early regulator found on the TC.
I can find information on how to adjust the setup with a voltmeter etc, but I want some advice on the initial mechanical setup. As a starting point I have set the gap between armature and coil at 15-20 thou, and 10 thou between armature and fixed contact with armature pressed down.
I have not touched the voltage adjusting screw at the back of the unit. That is not to say it is set correctly.
I have also not touched the cut out armature.
Hopefully someone out there can point me in the right direction, or even provide a sketch.
My reason for stripping the unit - ammeter needle flicking from + to -. Cleaning the points has cured this before. On removal this time I could see the points were quite badly pitted, so cleaned up with fine stone.

Someone must have something to say on this one, apart from don't do it again.

Henry, I can refer you to vintagemg.com the web site for the Southern Calif MG enthusiasts. In the tech articles by Jerry Austin is an article on testing the regulator. The sketches show the gap settings which I think you are looking for.

Henry:

To make a long story short you may use the TD information for the mechanical adjustments. Using the Lucas catalog 1945-1960, after an hour of searching, I was able to trace through several supersession charts of both the complete regulator assembly and just the regulator inside. The TC's guts eventually end up being the same as those used in the TDs.
