MG TD TF 1500 - Recent engine aquisition

Hi guys
This afternoon I picked up some MG books, a set of 1 1/4" carbs, extractors / complete exhaust system and a bonnet side panel with cut outs to take pancake air filters.

Extractors were used by a previous owner on his racing T type. I am told I will need to fit cycle guards if I were to fit the extractors.

I know there is discussion in the archives on whether there is any benefit in using extractors.

A close up of extractors. There is a 1/2" dia. equalising / connection tube between the carb inlets.

Did the position of the pipe for cylinder #1 necessitate replacing the front carb with a rear carb, or at least a rear float bowl?

Seems to me that any benefit from the headers is negated by the 1-1/4" carbs!

Headers are loud, don't fit well, rust through, and require special exhaust systems. If you are racing, those things probably don't concern you; if you want to run on the street, I think they are a pain! Oh, and you probably have to remove the bonnet sides!

I have Manley Ford's headder that uses the stock intake manifold under the bonnet of my TF with out any mods to the side panels. I have it ceramic coated and have no trouble with fuel boil like I did with the stock cast iron manifold. I think they look fantastic and aren't any louder than the old set up.

I think the benefits, if any, would be negligible on an otherwise stock engine. The factory-fitted manifold isn't bad. You'd probably need to significantly increase breathing to take advantage of those parts, and I also agree that the carb size would then be the bottleneck.

I only picked them up late yesterday and didn't have a good look or try a test fit against a head and block.
The new club member who gave the parts to me didn't get rid of these parts when he moved to his new home. He sold his TD and kept his DB4.
I am now in Sydney (900km and 12hrs away from home) after driving all day in my 4x4, and therefore unable to answer any questions about their fit etc. I will be home in a couple of weeks time.

Tom, the person who gave them to me, said they originally ran with 1 1/2" carbs.
