MG TD TF 1500 - Rear sprirng rubber bushes

Hi to all,

When trying to fit a new set of rubber bushes for the rear springs I have noticed that they are too long, so that when two of them are inserted from each side into the spring blade or in the chassis housing, they protrude, and their “flanges” do not touch the metal.

What shall I do now ? Must the bushes be trimmed to the correct length or shall I install them like that and compress them when tightening the shackle pin nuts?

Thanks for your responses.

You have probably been sold the wrong bushes MGB bushes are longer as the springs are wider. MG midget bushes are the same size as TD/TF ones and should be used in preference to the MGB ones. Otherwise, cut them down in length as there is nowhere for the rubber to go inside the spring eye and all you will achieve is distorted bushes and premature failure.
