MG TD TF 1500 - Radiator Shell Ferrules

I have new rubber ferrules for the side of the radiator shell that the lamp brackets go through. I just want to double check, as a lot of how this car was put back togther is not always correct.

Inside the shell, it appears that the inner end of the lamp bracket is secured by two small hex head bolts to another metal bracket. It does not appear that there are nuts on the ends of these bolts, so the brackets must be threaded, and the bolt heads are facing the rear of the car. Is this correct?

If so, it appears all that is needed is to udndo the bolts, slip the ferrule over the light bracket and secure in the radiatior shell, and redo the bolts. Have I missed something? Thanks in advance.

Larry - You have everything correct except that the ferrule is installed in the radiator shell first and the bracket slid thhrough it - much easier that way. Cheers - Dave

Thanks Dave. I was going to try and slip the ferrule on without undoing both ends of the headlamp bracket to avoid possibly damaging the paint. The car is fully assembled, but the old ferrules are cracked and dried.

Larry - You will need to be very careful putting the ferrules on witht he bracket ends in place. The thin metal of the radiator shell will cut the ferrule flanges real easily. Cheers - Dave

I know this will stun a few out there but you can replace the ferrules without undoing anything.
First dig out the old ones.
Then take the new ones and cut it with a razor blade on the side that will be behind the lamp bracket.
Work it around the bracket with a tiny bit of WD40 and it will pop in place and the tiny slit will be invisable .
I did it and have beed in a few shows and not one of the officials have ever been able to see the slit .
It took about 60 second to install each one.
