MG TD TF 1500 - Points - $6.95

Had a very interesting pub night tonight with the Niagara members of the Ontario MGT Register.
Got to chatting about the points problem I had last week with the ill fitting points.
One of the members went to his car and brought back a new set in a bag...he said "don't tell me your paying 30 some dollars for points/condenser"? "I buy mine at the tractor store"!!!
I said I had heard about the distributor cap, but nothing else....
Here are the actual ordering numbers:

Brand: Heritage
No: 839013V91 - TE20
Massey Ferguson

He has been using them for the last 10 years and gets them at a tractor supply house for $6.95 Canadian. Oh, and they come with a little capsule of grease for the shaft!

Did you get the cap # ? And supply house?

He wasn't familiar with the tractor cap!

LaVerne,

You want a distributor cap for a model TE20 Ferguson Tractor. Retails in Canada for less than $12.

In Canada this is a Massey Ferguson. In the US I believe its a Ford Ferguson tractor.

Is that the cap that fits our distributor? Someone bought a tractor cap and it was larger? (don't know what number)

There was a chap (since deceased) here in Rockburn that had a MF TE20 tractor (and a bunch of Jags). He showed me the distributor cap, whoch seemed to be exactly like the one on my TF.

Gordon,
I am so sorry....have mentioned "dizzy" caps on this BBS from tractor supply a few times....never thought to mention "points & condenser" because when they asked me at my local tractor place if I need them I always said no as I am running a pertronix Ingnitor.
Good time to say their plug wires are better than some of the crap sold for these cars also!

Has anybody checked NAPA for availability of these MF parts?

The subject of using A MF cap has come up before, but I don't remember any success.
I believe Bud Krueger got interested and bought a cap- I don't know if he ever found one that fit or not.

I always thought if there was a ready replacement, the parts vendors would have picked up on it and be selling them. ?

Also the generator is Lucas and the same as the T series but without the tach drive. An emergency replacement to be found on the backroads at your tractor or farm equipment stores, when you are where they never even heard of an MG.
Or as on one of our tours, when stopped for fuel, one of the locals, after crefully inpecting a wire wheeled TF, asked: "What kinda car is that UNDO?"
Don Harmer

"MY" Napa wanted to special order it for more than "our usual suppliers" wanted...of course they told me that on oil filters as well! "Your" Napa may be different!
I think it just depends on the store.
It's the old whatever the market will bear....good example price, a "heat-shrink" gun from an electronics supplier, ($79.99), then go to your hardware store looking for a "paint-strip" gun. ($19.95)...same model, same features. (the only differance was that when I purchased this as a "paint-stripper" inside the package was a sheet with some "extra's" I could order....one was a "bent shield for use with wire shrinking": $1.95)!
Same thing here...dizzy caps all same part #....for a MF tractor $9.95, for an M.G. $29.95, for a Jag $49.95....I would not be surprised to find that same one for a rare Bently would be $129.95!
PT Barnum knew this!
