MG TD TF 1500 - Ok so what are you guys doing with your T this mor

Me ... I been testing out the smaller pulley on the blower and the recurved dizzy from Jeff. Can you say YEHAW? Couple of short quick runs up to about 80 MPH.

LaVerne

Weeee ...damn I love the sound of the supercharger on it! The 5 speed is nice also!
David Sheward

Very nice LaVerne...sounded like you were getting close to lift-off there.
Gene Gillam

Just way to much fun. Thinking I need to use either the 4.3 rear end laying out there or the 4.1 . Maybe the 4.3 in the TD and the 4.1 in the TF. Making 9 lbs of boost. Timing is 20 degrees BTDC at idle. Wonder how long she'll stay in one piece. Them Toyota Coronas can eat my dust.
LaVerne

Yep

Been there, done that (in your car, not mine, sigh...)

Came in from the garage after installing various cables in the dash and out to the engine, and ran across your two videos. Sweet, very sweet. "You give me reason to live...."

Thanks for the "ride" and continue to enjoy -- John

Taking a deep sigh.

I thought it was the cluster gear and even bought one on eBay, no better than the one I have.

Laverne,

I'd like to echo what the other guys had to say. I'm in the early stages of my '53 TD project and your videos are great encouragement. Looks like fun! I really appreciate this group. I found out about this date stamp a few weeks ago while checking this forum. I was really pleased to find it under 59 years of rust and dirt during today's session in the shop.

Kirk Trigg

Kirk,
Where did the stamp come from?????????????

SPW
STEVE WINCZE

Kirk, where did you locate this stamp?
JL Nederhoed

A leaf in each rear leaf spring has a date stamped in it. Month-year of manufacture. The springs should be slightly behind the date of assembly of the car.
Other items with a date stamp are the coil, starter, generator, relay box and regulator.

Great, bring that thing to GOF central this year. The beer is on me and maybe a little single malt..
Tom Maine (TD8105)

I'm giving it some thought Tom. Ain't much on big cities though. Was thinking about MG 2012 in Dillard Georgia but its almost a month earlier than Chicago. Thought I could travel a leisurely southern route and swing up to the GOF on the way home but that's a lot of time to kill between the two.. even if I head up New England way fer sight seeing. Tough to turn down free beer though. Scotch though enticing is off my list. Gave up hard stuff at 23 in order to live this long. Cut back considerably on the brew also after the kidney went south.
LaVerne

Know the feeling. The resort is west of the city of Chicago, dont have to go to the big city. I forgot about the kidney thing but Coke a Cola is still viable and readily available. I think Dan C will be there and I have promised him some beverages as well.

LaVerne,

Haven't been out today, but was out yesterday early evening. Temps in the low 40s here with no heater and top down. It's a bit on the cold side! However it is just so much fun. The rings must be starting to seat as the wheels are starting to break free in first where they didn't before 8-D. Adjusting the valves to .016 on len's roller cam made a big improvement. A very noticeable improvement in performance from the .012 that I started at. I still have to do my Manley Ford extractor, but that's going to have to wait a bit as the cost to do the new exhaust is out of my budget for now. One observation though... You car LaVerne is so much quieter than mine. I have an OLD cherry bomb on there that was installed in the sixties. Despite the nice quiet cruising the your larger muffler affords, I must say I love the delightfully obnoxious sound of my old cherry bomb!

LaVerne,

You can alsways stop in Ohio ...I could keep your talents busy for a month!
Hand cluch on the TF, Get the TR running, re-assemble a Opel GT ...bring a spare supercharger & 5 spped with you and maybe I can keep up with you on way to St. Charles!

You do bathroom re-models?
Lots of free beer!

LOL
David Sheward

Steve and JL,

Sorry I was so late getting back to you. I was away all day today. But, as usual the guys on this forum nailed it. David was absolutely correct. The date stamp in the photo was from a leaf in my rear springs.

JA Benjamin / Jim B,
I have a really good cluster / laygear available if you want to make an offer. Should be able to get a pic of it in a week or so. If you're interested, my email is j.harrison(at)gmx.co.uk. Replace the (at) with the usual.
It will be going on ebay eventually if no-one wants it here.
Cheers,
Jon

Good to see your post Alex. Been wondering how you were doing. Feel bad now the Green Hornet was running so poorly when you and John took it for a short spin. Addressing a lot of issues right now and hope to have a no excuses mobile..other than cosmetic ... when I get done. Couple years ago when I drove the Ferrari, one of the things I noticed was the beautiful sound the engine made up through the gears but I thought it really needed a 7th gear. Though a lovely noise it would become a bit irritating cruising along the interstate all day. I think for me the same would be true of the Green Hornet. I have the single muffler on the B. The Kenwood gave up the ghost some time ago but I haven't done anything with it as I really couldn't hear it anyway.

Think I have the solution for ya David. We find a wrecked Ferrari 360 Modena and cram the drive train and steering wheel in Izzy. No clutch shifting at it's finest and no need for the blower or the 5 speed. I do have some experience with TR's...but don't tell anybody. I don't think I can match the Malaysion mobile with the Opel. Bathrooms...I'm retired there. Did a couple at our old place and did two here a couple of years ago and the Mrs. let me farm out most of it but not the worst. But the offer of free beer.....hmmmm.
LaVerne

Hmmmm If I can "rent" a Modena...I'm sure I can find a wrecked one! (Or a Veron....?)
Were do you "sit" in a mid-engine TF?
Think about a single "Brookland", Chaparell style seating in the bonnet....naw the dawg would be heart broken.
Kidding about the work but not the beer!
David Sheward

Jon

I actually have two usable(fair) cluster gears] I must replace the 1-2 gear.

thank you for the kind offer.
