MG TD TF 1500 - Oil in starter

The adventure continues...........I just had my starter fail because it was saturated with oil. This is the second one in 3 years. Does anyone else have this problem and/or a solution? Damn, wish that Moss oil seal worked! Regards, Tom

Thomas,

How did the oil get into the starter? Isn't the end of the starter closed except where the bendix extends out? Surely it's not coming in thru the bearing?

Thomas,
Just how bad is your rear seal leaking ??? I've never had a starter fail because of getting saturated with oil,,,, even though the rear seal (Non Moss) on our TD does seap a bit,,,, I do use a less expensive starter from an MG midget which fits after filing down one of the bolt heads,,,,,

The oil must seep in around the front bushing. I drop about 2 tablespoons of oil each time I stop. Has no one else had this problem? Tom
