MG TD TF 1500 - No Brake Fluid

I have a MGTD and a MGA and I posted this also in the MGA forum and am posting here because there appears to be a lot more members,

I have a 1959 MGA 1500 with front disc brakes. Its been a couple of months since I have driven it. Thursday I got in the car and pushed on the brake pedal and it went straight to the floor. No resistance what so ever. I inspected the master cylinder, which I replaced last year, and it was empty. Looking inside the master cylinder revealed NO fluid. Looking under the car I did not notice any fluid on the ground. I will jack up the car today and inspect further. Any thoughts as to where I might find the leak?

check the copper gaskets where the fluid lines go into the wheel cylinders.
If leaking replace with new gaskets. Dont just tighten the old ones.

Check for missing paint.

David. I responded to your post on the MGA thread. If no signs of fluid have been found either in the engine bay or in the interior of the car, I suggest ( if the A has a vacuum booster ), the fluid has been sucked out by the vacuum booster and burned along with the fuel due to a failed seal in the M/C.

Cheers

No vacuum booster on an MGA.

A 1500 with disks might be modified with a booster also,,,

Had the same problem with my Dad's TD. Pedal went right to the floor, THUMP! Turns out the rear wheel cylinders had been seeping for some time and the brake fluid had been absorbed into the drum brake liners. What a mess. The drums were coated with slime from the ruined liners and what was left on the shoes peeled off like wet cardboard. There was no exterior evidence of fluid leakage at all.

BTW the front wheel cylinders were all seized. Sent everything to White Post for brass sleeves and rebuild. Expensive but permanent.
