MG TD TF 1500 - New wiring harness install

I've launch the MGA a few months ago, and the TD is now in the work bay for wiring, seats, front susp and some engine tidying.

Is there a page that will help me get the original wiring out and the new harness in with a minimum of head scratching?

Mike, is the car assembled? Most of the wiring threads have leaned toward installing wiring in 'naked' cars. Bud

If you have and can follow a wiring diagram, it's easy. The main thing to make a note of, and maybe a few photos, is the route that the loom takes and where and how it is clipped / attached to the chassis. After that just cut out everything and heave it out. Then check out the new loom to identify the front end and back end, then feed in from the front, down and through the gap between the pedal box and chassis to the back. The other end divides and a big bundle of wires go through the bulkhead to under the dash and join a separate loom for the instruments and switches. The cut ends of wire from the old loom will help identify what goes where (with the wiring diagram).

I cut the old wire 5 " from where it attaches. If it follows the wire diagram color listing, then easy to ID what goes where.
Word of warning... do not cut any of the new wire. It all fits if its a good harness.

I pulled the front end thru from under the dash. It will be a hard pull for the wires that go to the fuse block, but it will go if you twist back and forth a bit.

Here is the diagram I used.

Hi Mitchell, I recently rewired my TD29330, close to yours?
I have all sorts of resources saved... colour wiring diagram, photos of routing etc.
Let me have you email address and I'll send.
Also there are 2 large loom clips, down the side of the bulkhead ad along the chassis rail near the dyno, these are same as the Ford 8 truck.

M Lees, 29350, could be the same day almost.

Thanks for the links and info all. The TD is about as primitive as it gets, but there is always an easy way. ....I'd just as soon start that way.

"cept for mid-80's paint it's original and I'm going to keep it that way... but the wiring has got to go - it's parked in the 4 car under the kitchen. It can have the kitchen, but not the stable of toys. That's off limits.

The only trick I can offer is to wrap the harness that goes behind the brake cylinder with tape before you put it back there (especially if you have a cloth harness). This will keep it from getting mucked up with oil and grease. After you pull it through remove the tape
