MG TD TF 1500 - MGB engine install

Had some great photos from Roger in England showing his 'B' engine and 5 speed install... put them on a web page FYI.

To Roger -- A very nice sanitary installation. You are to be congratulated on getting it so neat and well done.

There are two serious problems apparent. #1 What happens to the airfilters? and #2- If the engine torques the neck of the dist-cap will break of on # 1 cylinder. Also being a RHD it does not create a serious problem with steering column clearance with the exhaust manifold.

Just a few explanatory notes; There are no air filters as I did not want holes in the side of the bonnet (engine cover); I do not think dust will be a problem here in the UK, especially as I do less than 3000 miles a year. I also had to omit the plastic spacers between the carbs and the inlet manifold, but the gaskets and metal heat shield are still there. With the vent slots in the side of the bonnet (engine cover) there is adequate air flow, and the carbs do not get hot; the operation of the carbs does not seem to be affected as the engine pulls very well.
The torque link holds the static engine very slightly over to the left (viewed from the seats) by 1 or 2 degrees. With the engine running, and revved up very quickly, the engine does move to the right, but there is still a gap of over 3/16" between the steering column and any part of the distributor cap. In addition, the fan blades were cut down by approx 1/2", and they are well clear of the original bottom outlet on the radiator. This outlet was left in situ just in case someone ar a later date wanted it back in place.
Gordon, the exhaust pipe would be a serious problem for a LH drive car, and I would not have thought of it. The TD I mentioned in the north west of the USA is RH drive. There is a thread about speedo drive for a TD with an MGB engine; I wonder how the problem has been overcome in that car (unless it is RH drive).

Sorry, the thread is about tacho drive.
