MG TD TF 1500 - Mesh TD Grille Treatment Original?

A neighbor that inherited his Dad's 52 TD says its grille is a "wire mesh" motif vs. the familiar vertical slats, and that his Dad swears it was original. Is anyone aware of whether there was a variant of the common grille design on this series? Perhaps for a particular geographic market?

I remember two aftermarket grilles, one was chrome sheet with about .25 inch squares punched on about a .38 inch matrix. the other was a casting in aluminun or potmetal.

I remember seeing one of the cast grill's some years ago. Truly not a factory original, but there were so many aftermarket items, it could have been put on early in the car's life.

Mesh is not original. I however, have brass mesh in my MKII's shell, looks good and helps with air flow.

One version of the Chrysler 300 has a plastic wire mesh grille just like some T Type's use (specialy vintage racers).

Gents,
A friend has a wire mesh stone guard mad to fit over a Ford Model A radiator shroud. Much like a larger version of the TD shroud. It would be easy to cut out an insert for a TD from the Model A Ford accessory. It is heavy stainless wire.

Might be an earlier grille. Early 30's had the mesh grille from the factory.

As far as I know, mesh was a common upgrade used by racers back in the day. Much stronger than the original slats and better protection against radiator damage due to rocks found on and around the primitive '50's race courses. Offered as an aftermarket item by a number of vendors and simulated the lok of the 30's MG's. Denver Cornett used it on his racing TC for years. Looks cool, IMO.

I bought a '53 TD back in 1963 which had a mesh grill. As a ten year old car then it already had at least two previous owners so I couldn't say for sure it was original. The grill was an interwoven wire mesh, fairly small openings and was painted black. It looked very nice.
