MG TD TF 1500 - Kennedy's in a TD

Chris Cooper posted a picture of John and Jackie Kennedy in a TD, in another thread. I thought I would start a new thread to do a bit of investigating on this.

Chris's picture was apparently in a Greek newspaper and says the picture was of the Kenned's leaving for their honeymoon in Acapulco.

I went to the Kennedy Library and they also have this picture http://www.jfklibrary.org/JFK/Media-Gallery/The-wedding using wedding cars tunbridge wells-of-John-and-Jacqueline-Kennedy.aspx

The caption with this picture appears to indicate that the picture was taken in Acapulco

Accession Number: PX81-32:270Description: Senator John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy ride in a car on their honeymoon in Acapulco, Mexico, September 1953.Date: September 1953

I wrote to the library and asked if they have any additional information on the picture and where it was taken.

Alexander Bouyouris found this originally. Thanks for the update.

Thanks Chris

I did receive an answer from the JFK library. They are closed for some renovation, but that is actually a good thing in that there are still staff there. They are going to do some research to see if they can get more information on where the picture was taken and potentially where the car came from. (Kennedy's reception was at the Auchincloss residence, Hammersmith Farm. This is a huge mansion and farm, so the TD may have been there.

It's labeled as being in Acapulco when they were actually on their honeymoon. Hammersmith Farm is in Rhode Island. The residence is a big Victorian style house. The architectural detail in the doorway behind the couple in the car is more in keeping with the Spanish Colonial that is common in Mexico.

It could be that the was car lent to the couple by a friend in Mexico.

Maybe the JFK Library can provide more information to satisfy the curiosity around this.

Good observation Bobby. Who wants to pound through Google Streetview? :-)
