MG TD TF 1500 - Instrument panel light bulbs

I understand that Instrument panel light bulbsare now available from some suppliers as led bulbs. But what is the designation of the socket? They are threaded. ( I have an MG TF 1954)

Many are bipolar (mine are..). Work fine, though they are a bit directional due to the Led construction, so the ones behind the small instruments don't give much light. Nice green color, though (if you pick green, of course...)

Thanks Mike, I am behind the curve on this technology. I was not aware they had LED 's that operated with either polarity. Thank you.regards, tom

How do you determine the intensity of these bulbs? PJ
Paul sr

It is not the led jtself that is bipolar, it's an additional circuit inside.
For intensity, it's just plain trial, I usually take the most powerful ones I can get. The electric power they draw is neglibile, so no issue there.

Staffordshire vehicle components has them in stock at 9 pounds each. M.E.S. type threaded. I ordered a set, hopefully I can now start seeing my instruments when driving in the dark.

Just remember the immortal words of the Price of Darkness: "Gentlemen do not go motoring about after dark."

OK, I think I snatched that from a better informed member of this bbs so credit goes elsewhere.

Bipolar? Did not know that TD's suffered from that? Mine is a bit cranky at times, but I would not call it bipolar?
Bruce Cunha

How about - "dual polar?"

Jerry Chandler 1951 TD

Uni-polar?
J K Chapin

Itīs not the TD thatīs bipolar, itīs the bulb ;-)
