MG TD TF 1500 - How about this one?

Looks like a pretty car, but what a price for a car with an incorrect engine! The ad says TC engine, but it has a TD aircleaner.
Notice, its like a threat! IF it doesn't sell here, I'll sell it to some unsuspecting fool for a stupid price at RM!
Steven Tobias

I looked again and it has a TD aircleaner manifold, but an aftermarket filter.

Can't say i like the brass/gold instruments or the dash...I think for $55,000 I wouldn't want to hear the term 'patina'

Nice car but....
Does anybody here really think this will bring a higher price than $55K at auction?
Why would anybody pay that when ad says:
"It will sell at the Vintage Motor Cars of Hershey auction at NO RESERVE."

David Sheward

errr...

It's an ad. He has no intention of selling it on ebay. for the cost of the listing fee he has an internet ad that will have very wide readership (Where helping!)The car is going to Hershey regardless. He just wants to make sure that qualified bidders are aware of it. If it fetches more than $20 with the wrong motor and the 'patina' someone is getting ripped off.

That's a TA, not a TC and even with an XPAG engine they're worth more. The original engines were often replaced so I don't think the new owner will be that worried about it.
Gene Gillam

Just curious...what "added value" would those on this BBS attach to "matching numbers" on not only a TA, but on other T series cars as well?

I've seen Tickfords with proper engines go for not more then this!
Steven Tobias

David,

to answer your question, unless the car had sentimental value to me,
I personally would knock 10-15% off the price of a restored car,
but at least $1000 off on a 'restorable' car.

I could be wrong about this, but, are these the correct wheel (center laced)? Shouldn't they be outside laced on a TA?
Steven Tobias

The wheels are laced the same as my 1936 TA. I also noted the non-original type black interior, wrong steering wheel, fuel lines (between the carbs), and too large rear window. The text indicates that the correct gauges have been installed. That fuel filter doesn't look very good either. Priced too high too!
