MG TD TF 1500 - Horns

The horns on the 1954 mgtf drain the battery over time. There is a wiring solution to earth/ground the horns. Does anyone have a wiring diagram?
Reply to lav@vandorco.ca. Thanks.

Les,
Why do you suspect that the horns are draining the battery ???

After a few weeks of inactivity my battery was dead. Tested various circuits and found a constant.2 amp drain from the horns. The question is which wire should be grounded?
Les Vandor

Les,

Horns are wired differently to most other components on a car. Two wires exit each horn and one of these goes straight to live without a switch and the other to earth via a switch. This system is a throw back to when horn buttons were in the middle of the steering wheel and allows a sigle wire to pass up the steering column.

If you have a constant 2amp drain this means you have short to earth in the feed wires to the horns, in the horns themselves (the bodies are conected to earth), in the wires to the switch or in the switch itself. If I had the problem I would selectively isolate each part of the circuit and test for a current draw and thus find the culprit by elinination.

This is not the solution to Les' problems, he must have a short somewhere. However, displeased with the fact that the whole current of the horns go through the pushbutton on the dashboard (1950 TD), I put a relay in between, as it is done with modern cars. In other words, the pushbutton merely opens the relay, which is connected to the horns. Operation is much more reliable and there can't be any current leak from the horns.
