MG TD TF 1500 - Help needed with license plate light wiring?

Good evening all:

We're finally pulling wire, and I'm wondering what the best route is for the license plate circuit. It's just hanging in the air right now and we could put some black zip ties on it, but there has to be a more elegant way.

Should there be enough wire to run it through the spare tire bracket? It could come out the flange in the bracket right below the light and then head straight up, but it doesn't look like there's enough wire in the loom to do that, so it would involve some splicing - and a hole to feed it through from the bottom of the tire bracket.

Thanks for the help,
Dave

Dave, it does go through the tubing and comes out half way across the upper tube. From there it goes against the fuel tank. See the attached image. Bud

Thanks Bud - this is exactly what I need.

Dave,be sure to leave a little extra length of the wiring harness just outside of the tubing. This is to make a drip loop so that water does not follow the wires directly into the tubular frame. Your headlamp and taillamp wires should be dressed the same way for the same reason.

There should also be a piece of flexible tubing that runs from the back of the light into the metal tube. The wires should not be bare. There is a reference to the tubing in this BB somewhere.
James Neel

So you may find it difficult to thread the wire through the metal tube. Use a vacuum to "suck" a string through and then use the string to pull the wire. My electrician showed me that trick pulling through 300 feet of conduit.

I was able to push a thin braided wire through and used it to pull the harness through after taping the two together

I tied a nut to some rayon line and fished it through by tumbling the rack prior to installing the rack. The line is visiable in the sections of my website where I was installing the tank and spare tire rack.
