MG TD TF 1500 - Headlight Switch
I'm used to the terms High Beam and Low Beam. Which one is the Dip? |

Nevermind. WSM N.25 Duh! Main = High Dip = Low |

Sort of a history on the dip. The TA's cars had the dipping solenoid that moved the L/H reflector for the high beam effect. Early TC's incorporated the additional dip filament on the L/H side for the high beam then added it to both sides. TDs have the main filament (regular) and the dip for hi beam. My understanding Mike |

No Mike, <http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_does_dip_your_lights_mean#> |

David - Now that was a useless answer! Mental dipped. Some early cars had the headlamps mounted on a bar, mounted in pillow blocks, with a linkage back to a handle in the driver area. So you did it mechanically, as needed; also good for fog etc. All sorts of variants as Mike posted came along. FRM |
