MG TD TF 1500 - Happy Christmas

Can I wish everyone a Happy Christmas and New Year. The tips picked up have been very useful. Does anyone know of a good video(PAL format) featuring TD/TF's I can watch when bored of the usual repeats, 1950's WW2 and cowboy movies.

I'm in the middle of a restoration of a 1950 MGTD and have been videotaping my progress (or lack thereof). When finished (sometime late in Hillary Clinton's second presidential administration) I plan to edit the tape into a comic documentary....

There are a number of MG T Series related videos out there, not sure of the format other than VHS. Among my favorites are the series of 3 videos produced by Shelburne Films detailing the New England MG T Register's various group tours, including the Circuit of Britain, a 1990 tour by almost 100 T series and their owners, spending 3 weeks driving around Blighty, (I'll bet some of the responders on this board were among the participants), the second deals with a tour around the Maritime Provinces of Canada, and the third follows the 10 day trip to the Shenandoah Mounains and the Skyline Drive. A lot of T series in-car shots, beautiful scenery and inspiration to those of us whose cars are in pieces (again). The Skyline Drive tours also emphasizes the T's weak points, (UPS driver delivering driveline parts is particularly telling) and the most common thread, of course, is the daily "legs sticking out from under cars in the parking lot" scene in all 3 videos.

Also MG's Across America is a good one, not all T's but plenty of early film...Find by searching online, I think it was produced in the UK. Pretty good stuff.

Robert,

The tape into a comic documentary will be Hillary Clinton's attempt to the presidential administration, right??

Henery,
Try this web site. I got 3 films about early TD production, 1 about the Monte and another good one about a trip across Europe to go skiing in Switzerland. They help me get through the winter!

OK. Now my Christmas is ruined. I just noticed these movies are only on PAL. Robert I see that you are in the military by your id so you are viewing in Europe? Anybody have a way to convert the PAL to NTSC or maybe stream to some other format?

The promotional films made by the British car makers in the fifties and sixties often appear on Speedvision. I always seem to catch them part way through or I can't find a blank tape in time.

The format and narration all seem very similar. You can see where Monty Python got much of their material from. I do believe I caught most of the one covering the TD trip to Switzerland. Worth a look see! Just a shame there is not more footage of the factory and stages of assembly. There is some top down motoring in sub zero conditions.

Happy Holidays to all. As to videos, was on the Circuit of Britain in '90. Copies of the video are still available and are a great primer on the country, Land's End to John O'Groats. There were two groups, hotel and B&B. Most of movie is from Hotel viewpoint. As a B&B'r I think they missed-out on a lot of extra fun. Lots of great shots, lots of feet protruding from under the cars, etc.

When I was there, I picked up a couple of videos, which turned out to be PAL formated. Found a few video operations here, who were willing/able to convert them for me, (at a price of course). I lucked out however, with an mutual aquaintence deal and a fellow who did them for food & drink.

We were on the New England MG"T" Register's "Lap of New England" and the "Skyline Soiree" Both trips turned out to be some of the best MG experiences ever !!! The site of Shelburne Films is http://www.shelburnefilms.com/travel.htm They might be able to do the PAL format...

Chris,
I ordered the films from motorfilms, they work fine in my VCR. Not sure what PAl or NTSC means, ordered straight up and they worked fine!
Good Luck

Robert: PAL is the standard in Europe for TV's where in NA it's NTSC. The PAL scan rate is different since they are on 220 vs 110 and they have a few more lines of resolutionn. It may be that you just loose a little of the screen and the timing (ie speed of the film) will be off a bit. If you are playing them on a NA VCR then it will work for me too. I will take a try and see what happens.

Hope all had a "Merry/Happy" !!!
As a post-note.....
Spoke with my friend about PAL > NTSC conversion this morning and discovered not only that he can do this but he has a website I was not aware of!
Conversion would run about $20.00 per hour dependent of tape length.
You can contact them from this link:

He asked that you direct any inquires for this to:

The PO for my car had told me that he and his wife had been participants in the Circuit of Britian in 1990. Actually, it was his wife that had told me as her husband had had a stroke and was not really able to tell me anything. However, since I learned that my car (mgtf-1500 #7157) had been in the Circuit of Britian, I've tried to find out some more. Would you or could you provide any info about this event. I would be interested in finding out who sponsored or promoted this event and if there are any plans to repeat. Any info that you would share would be appreciated. TIA
